Emory ABSN/MSN 2016 Program

Published

Hi everyone,

I thought I would get a thread started for the Emory ABSN/MSN 2016 application cycle. I am going to the information session next Friday, July 24th for the program.

Has anyone else started to get ready for this application cycle?

If you want to get a scholarship through Emory (other than the ones students are automatically considered for like some merit ones and some minority ones) most of their deadlines are Tuesday. So if you don't think you'll be able to cover the costs, even with a financial aid package, it wouldn't hurt to apply.

where are you seeing these deadlines? I'm only seeing March 1st. And I didn't think FAFSA had an official deadline

Hey! Sorry, only a few scholarships have a deadline of December 15th (Woodruff Scholarship & Fuld Service Learning). Those scholarships indicate that students must be accepted to either the ABSN or ABSN+MSN program to apply. There are about 6 or 7 other scholarship applications on Emory's website that do not have a specified application deadline (aside from the Susan D. Flynn Memorial Oncology Nursing Externship that is due January 15th), so no matter when you're accepted you can possibly still apply. Here is the link to where I found all of that info Scholarships | Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing | University | Atlanta GA

As for FAFSA, the general rule is to apply as soon as you (or your parents if you are a dependent) have finished filing taxes for the year. FAFSA does have an official deadline that is usually on June 30th. But since Emory's ABSN + MSN program starts on May 18th, I would encourage you to complete it sooner than that.

Thank you so so much!!! My parents paid for undergrad and took care of everything. Now that I'm doing everything myself I'm still learning the ropes :) I just had a minor panic attack that something was due last night so I wanted to be sure! Thanks so much again for your help/info!

p.s. I hope I hear back soon uhg!

You're welcome lyndsmar!! I hope you hear back soon, too, and that it's good news!

Does anyone know when the summer program starts?

Hi!! I am wondering if anyone knows folks who have completed this program and could offer some insight:

*Does this program allow for a step out year between ABSN portion and MSN ?

*Have you heard of people in this program taking time to get experience as an RN before moving on to the MSN?

*Is is possible to change MSN specialty or are you locked in to your decision? (I chose fam. nurse midwife but also have a lot of interest in the Women's Health Nurse Practitioner track)

Is everyone going to the Feb 6 admitted students day?? :) see you thennnn

thank you this is super helpful!

I'll be attending the admitted students day! Those are great questions I'd also like to know the answer to.

I apologize if this is a silly question but is this program online? I cannot find information that says one way or another but I noticed that many of you spoke about not living near the school.

This program is on-site, not online

Most people, including me, plan on moving to Atlanta once the program starts

Hi all! Has anyone who applied for the Dec. 15 deadline heard back yet?

Also, I checked my application status today and have an additional item in my application checklist: Final Grades - From Completed Nursing Coursework. I have green checks next to everything except my prereqs that I'm completing Spring 2016, and now this new one. Anyone else seeing that?
