Emory ABSN Fall 2020

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hey guys! I noticed there isn't a thread for Emory's ABSN for Fall 2020, so I figured I would start one. The priority decision releases are supposed to be sent out today. Has anyone heard anything?

Hey guys! Congrats to everyone who has been accepted already. I got waitlisted back on January 17th. I don’t graduate undergrad until May 2020, so my final grades haven’t been received by Emory’s SON, yet I was wondering what else could I do to better my chances of being accepted. I already emailed them asking if I could send some recommendations, so those are pending. Thank y’all.

I just turned down my offer, so hopefully this helps the waitlist!

Would anyone who turned down their offer be willing to share what led to that choice? I’m having a hard time deciding

I personally decided to attend University because it is closer to home, cheaper, 11 months, and I wouldn't have to be stressing about all the MN change stuff. I didn't want to be a guinea pig in a new program that was still pending approval.

Hey! So they actually spoke a lot about this at the accepted students day. Most ABSN programs are looking to shift towards this type of program (and soon retiring the ABSN). As an MN, you’re able to use graduate school funding for aid which has a much higher limit and the leadership courses added to the core will help post residency. Everyone in a given hospital gets the same amount going through their residency, but with the leadership focused MN as your RN education base, you’re more likely to move up the ranks sooner/get salary increasing positions. Do you guys have any specific questions? If they covered it there I’ll answer to the best of my ability

I'm still trying to figure out why they decided to change besides the scholarship. Looks to me they are adding more courses which they can charge more. I'm not being negative but I do not see a compelling reason for the change and ultimately getting rid of the ABSN.

Did they go into detail about the outcome they are expecting from the MN? Getting promoted quicker is based on individual initiative and shouldn't be based on because I have a "MN" and you have a "BSN" does not qualify you to obtain a role quicker than me.

If someone applied right now to the program, what are the chances if any of getting in? Please do share your thoughts?

How long does it take to hear after submission of an application, please? Thanks!

Any tips on how the waitlist works? Also, how many have they accepted off the waitlist in the past? Thanks!

I’ve been wondering the same thing because I’ve been on it since January.

So I was on the waitlist from January and they ended up accepting me after I went on a tour and talked to someone on the admissions team. I basically asked her "what can I do to get off the waitlist". She was really nice and helpful and ended up leaving a note for me to a Megan Norfleet. She told me to email her as well and I did that same day. Next day I got my acceptance. Hope this helps!
