i know some of us have received our letters so i was wondering who else i will be making this journey with for the next 2 years.
my name is allison shaffer and it's nice to meet you. i know we will all be close because it's a small group. it would be nice to get to know some of you before november 17. :)
As a former El Centro nursing student, I agree with your neighbor. Most of the instructors want you to succeed and are willing to help you. There are some that are not that way, though. If I had to do it over again, I would not go to El Centro and I do not recommend it to anyone. Not one student in my class actually liked nursing school. My friends who went to other schools in the area did the same difficult work but had supportive faculty to help. That makes a difference.
Good luck to you!
Katie,Those results are awesome!!!!! Why aren't you happy with that, silly?
I only got 4 points higher listening to the lecture over and over again. I think you did great!
Good luck on P/A...my check off is Wednesday!
Good luck on your check off.
I am not happy with my 88, because I would rather have a low A than a high B. And I was close to that.
By the way, have you all signed up for the noncredit care plan and documentation classes at El Centro?
I am thinking about it.

Jenn and I took the documentation class this last Saturday. I thought it was helpful but I would have rather just learned from the book then spend my Saturday at school.....There were only 4 of us in the class :chuckle . 2 from NL and Jenn and I from EC. I think the Care Plan one is a little more popular. I am looking forward more to that one. I am taking it March 13th which is over Spring Break. I hope it's a little more useful!
Our P/A check off got moved to Monday! :angryfire Our class is a day behind because we were out one day last week so she pushed our check off back. Our meds check off isn't until March....I just want it all to be over with. We drew numbers today to see how we would do the check off and I was #1. ...I was very happy with that! I am the type that just wants it over!!!!
When is your PA check off Katie?

#1 is a good number. :)
My check off in on this Friday. I still have to work on my documentation skills.
I signed up for the Monday care plan class. I talked to my classmate about the class and she signed up, too. She has the last spot, so the Monday class is already full.
Right now, we have our lunch break. I was walking around campus and noticed that there were people here from UTA. They had lots of info papers about their BSN program and a neat, yellow, guide book about nursing specialties for free. So look for them at El Centro, too if you haven't done already. I know that TWU likes to visit campuses, too.

I'm curious...of you all who are currently in either EC or NL's program....are any of you working? If so, how many hours? Just curious if this is something that can be done with a part time job (Amy
Yes, I work 20 hrs a week. It can be done, but it just depends on if you're willing to sacrifice. So far, I am maintaining an A average, but now we're starting clinicals and I am very busy! There are other people in the program that work up to 36 hrs a week, but I don't know how well they are doing in the program.

I think it can be done. I work 20 hours a week and yes, it's tough but I do it. You just have to accept it and move on. I don't think the job is so tough- I don't know how people do it and have kids. That seems so hard to me and I greatly admire those that can do that.
Thank you :)How are clinicals going? Is it a lot different in the hospital?
My clinicals were awesome today... I'm not a morning person, so I had to have my coffee!! I was checked-off on meds today (before we're allowed to give meds with the nurse, our clinical instructor must watch us the first time) and it went really well! All of the nurses are really nice, but some of the PCT's are a little... umm how should I say this... jealous I guess? My PCT would try to do everything before me, like it was a race or something. Anyways... I must admit that this careplan stuff is tedious and stressful. I started it yesterday, and I must finish it tonight before midnight.
I really like being at the hospital. After I complete this semester, I will go and work at either Harris or Arlington Memorial as a PCT. They give more responsibilites to nursing students who have completed the first semester.
Well, I guess my break time is over.....

That's awesome! I know sometimes they will give curves. I have heard of them in the past but our teacher didn't do it.
