my name is allison shaffer and it's nice to meet you. i know we will all be close because it's a small group. it would be nice to get to know some of you before november 17. :)

Specializes in OR Internship starting in Jan!!.

I think I get out of class at noon that day, so maybe I can poke my head in for a few minutes and see what it's all about. :)

Specializes in ER.

I'd like to go to Jaxia! In case everyone didn't notice, my name magically changed...lol. This way when I complain about people on here it's a little more anonymous!

Yin Yang (hehe)

Sounds good to me :) We do get out at noon that day, don't we?

Incognito ;)

Specializes in Operating Room.

Really, I wouldn't say on here what I wouldn't say at school.

It is disorganized. Teachers have said it, students have said it...nothing to try to prove.

However, I have heard, that other..not all..., but there are other schools out there that are just as crazy.

(This is all to say, when I'm really upset about something, what I "REALLY" think won't be posted....my husband gets to deal with the real complaining.) :roll :roll

Yeah, that's one thing that everyone seems to agree on -- disorganized :)

Specializes in Nephrology.

Mi'Shelle-

This instructor we share this semester is a wonderful instructor so far! I have been waiting for her to become evil like everyone has been warning me about but it's been a week and she's still nice. We shall see! Have you met her yet? She seems really knowledgeable and always willing to answer questions. I haven't posted on here in a while because I didn't know there were posts! My email is all crazy and I don't get these messages. So I hope you weren't thinking I wasn't answering! :lol2:

Oh yeah- today I was with a nurse who actually had her in 3rd semester and said that she loooooved her. She said she is tough and does expect a lot out of you but you will be prepared at the end of the semester. I like being challenged and I love the way she makes us think in our group. For everything you say about your patient she says "WHY?" and then you have to do some critical thinking and come up with an answer mostly without looking at your book! It's amazing what I've retained and didn't realize until she made me pull it out of the far dark corners of my memory! I'm glad I have her but I will still watch my back hahaha!

Katie- how was the IV seminar? I had mine yesterday too. I thought it was pretty interesting! I almost got to start an IV today but another nurse attended to it before I was able to! SO CLOSE THOUGH! haha!

BTW- the nurses at Presby are AWESOME! They are always willing to help and thoroughly explain anything!!! Another Magnet hospital!!! I think this will be a great experience and I'm soooo glad I didn't get my 2nd choice which was the other lecture instructor. I'm just really happy I got who I did!

Specializes in ante/postpartum, baby RN.

How was your IV seminar? I was doing fine and I managed to start an IV on my second time although I couldn't pay attention to aseptic technique. I really have to go back and practice more.

By the way, I had a class with my "horrible" lecture instructor today and she was nice. She made us laugh a couple of times. Although she did say that her lecture test average was around 78 last time and that there were tests when people made around 88. Well, I will find out soon what's going on with her tests. She also said that she really doesn't care what med-surg book we read but the test answers would be based on Lewis.

It's hard to remember every little step with starting an IV which is why I was really nervous to do it on a patient! I wish I could have at least watched the nurse do it but I'm sure I'll get to see it again as almost every person on the cardiac unit has an IV!

I hope your lecture teacher is good but I know you'll do great either way! Maybe she wants to change this semester which I think is great for you guys! Maybe my "horrible" teacher is making a turn around also!!! :monkeydance:

I am happy that it turned out great for you. I don't have any class or clinical to do this week until Wednesday so I will just read books for a while. And try not to get lazy. :lol2:

Allison....thank you for that! I won't meet her until Friday.

I only have her for skills labs, which is q Friday 1200-1500.

I really want to learn, so that is good. ... I don't want to cry every day in class, yet I don't want to fluff my way through either.

OK...what exactly can we do with IV's in 2nd semester with pts?

Sorry again, it seems that I get goofy after 1900.
