i know some of us have received our letters so i was wondering who else i will be making this journey with for the next 2 years.
my name is allison shaffer and it's nice to meet you. i know we will all be close because it's a small group. it would be nice to get to know some of you before november 17. :)
:) Thanks for the info. I just ordered the Prentice Hall Nursing Reviews & Rationales series titled "Nursing Fundamentals" off Amazon.com. I hope it gets here quick. Can you tell me which books in the "Straight A's" series you used? I looked on Amazon.com and there are several.

"Fundamentals Success: A Course Review Applying Critical Thinking to Test Taking" by Patricia Nugent & Barbara VitaleMy book has 2 ISBN #'S listed below:
13: 978-0-8036-1056-9
10: 0-8036-1056-4
Another good book for 1st semester is from the Prentice Hall Nursing Reviews & Rationales series titled "Nursing Fundamentals". The series breaks down what we are required to read into the "short & sweet" version with NCLEX questions before & after the review.
For 2nd semester the Straight A's series is also good.
Well my first day of lecture went pretty well.... My instructor "yelled" at a few students because they weren't prepared today and they had never logged on to ecampus. She is monitoring everything this semester! I can honestly say, that she appears to have had a change of heart this semester... She actually seems like she cares about us and that she wants us to pass! She was very nice and comical... I was just in awe!
She's using tegrity 2.0 which is where you can download lecture to an ipod or mp3 player.
She did tell us that "unfortunately" dcccd will no longer do the pharm tests after this semester!!!!! We were all kinda upset about that.... she said that it will now be incorporated into the lecture exams. In addition, their will be some pharm and math on the lecture exams.
She also told us that as of April 2007, NCLEX is changing it's testing style, so don't buy any NCLEX books for awhile because they will be outdated. She said that there will be a listening part where you have to choose the type of breath sounds (wheezing, crackles, etc) and they are focusing on infection control and standard precautions. She said that they will be adding infection control into the lecture exams.
She also said that she is making her own tests and that we can be tested from ANYWHERE, but all of the rationals will come from Lewis.
If I remember anything else, I'll let y'all know... It was a long day! Most of this stuff will be helpful for Katie. Let me know if there is something else you need to know..

I wish all the lectures were recorded & uploaded like that! It's not that expensive for the nursing dept to purchase lapel mikes, etc for the lecture instructors.
Hmmmm....So you are given a list of meds as if you were going to get a pharm exam, but you won't?
I can understand "tests" being from anywhere, but the information to back up the answer should be from your books.
I hope she uses only IGGY next semester! ha
Wow- Brie. That sounds like an interesting 1st day! We didn't get hardly any of that information yesterday! The only thing our teacher told us was this would be the last semester they would use Lewis although Iggy is listed on our books in the syllabus but what was I thinking going by that?! You would think I would have learned my lesson! Luckily I bought a Lewis book from a friend of mine because I had already sold mine!!! ARGH!
I heard respiratory was the hardest also. There are a few people who didn't pass from NL who have now transferred to EC and they said that the resp. test is the most difficult and KNOW LAB VALUES (resp/met acidosis/alkalosis stuff) because that's what most people missed. They said Cardiac was pretty difficult also. There is one girl in our class who failed at EC sem3 last time with a 77.2!!!!!!!! I would be so mad and she is really bitter....she says you don't get a good ceremony when you graduate in December like you would if you graduate in May and that's what she is most upset about.....She had my same lecturer last semester....
Okay 3rd semester...how are things going for you all? :) I was just thinking about something. Come December you will be GRADUATING. How cool is that? RN is less than 1 year away. I am SO happy for you all. Great job!Amy
Thank you Amy It is so close yet soooo far! haha!
