i know some of us have received our letters so i was wondering who else i will be making this journey with for the next 2 years.
my name is allison shaffer and it's nice to meet you. i know we will all be close because it's a small group. it would be nice to get to know some of you before november 17. :)
Mi'Shelle-
From what I know, hanging the bag is pretty much the NS, LR, etc. which involves priming the line, attaching it to the pigtail thingy (I'm so technical, I know haha), and hanging it on the pole except in a little bit different order because you would hang it on the pole first and you would calculate the flow rate and all of that... By meds I think she means IV piggy-back meds which is what you learn to give in 3rd semester. I don't know why they don't teach it all at once because IVPBs seem just as easy to "do" but the process is a little more involved.
I think you'll like Ms A. She will explain everything you want to know and never acts like you're asking a dumb question. She's the type where if you begin to ask a question and then stop in mid-sentence and say, "oh nevermind I figured it out" or "nevermind- that's a dumb question" then she will sit there and coax the question out of you which I think makes for a wonderful learning environment. I hope you like her! :)
OK....so...
The pt has an existing NS IV line, the NS bag is empty, we can hook a new NS up and start the administration of it? (if ordered....yada yada yada....lol)
Oh..and I live the piggytail thing. hahahhahha
I'm glad to know that about Ms. A. I was preparing myself for an instant failure on all skills just for looking at her wrong.
OK....Clinical orientation tomorrow....nite everyone! :monkeydance:
Thanks....I commented about it on the Fall '06 thread. hahaI found out today that my clinical instructor is the SNA sponsor for ECC???? :) (Ms. E)
I'll head over to that thread to check it out.
Oh THAT Ms E. I never put 2 and 2 together. She had a bad accident last semester where she broke BOTH arms! I'm glad she is back and doing well! You're so lucky to get to do OB at Parkland! I hope you enjoy it!

lol....Ms. E said "Hang them", but not antibiotics, etc.
Ok...so so that means "hang" NS on the pole, but not any meds?
I've asked this question before, but I can't remember to whom all I've asked.
I'm loosing it. lol
