I am back from my clinical evaluation. I got an A. :balloons:

I met some ECC students there and they showed me their clinical choices. You have sooooo many hospitals there. And many intructors who I never heard about.

Anyway, good luck to everybody who starts 3rd semester, 2nd semester, 1st semester and pre-nursing. :monkeydance:

No, I'm not getting treatment because I'm not actually depressed. I only get this way when I think about school. If I didn't have to worry about changing careers, I'd be fine. It's not like I think I'm stupid or anything...I know I'm not...but I'm also not naive about how college works. I busted my ass the first semester and still pulled nothing but straight Bs even though my exam scores were higher than that. For example, in my Spanish class I averaged a 96% but received a B because of UT's asinine curve/quota system. So I know that even if I bust my ass this time, the dream could still be snatched away from me no matter how hard I work.

I don't hate myself, I don't want to die, I don't have thoughts about harming myself. I'm just realistic about what college was like for me, fearful it will happen again, and I've come to terms with the fact that my UG GPA will follow me around for the rest of my life and I won't get a second chance.

PM me if you need to. I know of several schools you can get into even though you don't have a 3.5 or up.

It's not true that everyone has to have that high a GPA.

I know a school that will take a 2.5, but it has a 3 year wait list. It's better than nothing though.

I personally had a 3.1 GPA and got into school and I made Dean's List first semester.

Don't give up.

My GPA isn't a 2.5, that was just an example. If I got As on all the pre-reqs it would not be enough; I have too many hours of credit for a handful of classes to move my GPA. Even if I could get just on the brink it wouldn't be enough, since doing the bare minimum rarely is and I'll be up against students with 3.8s on their UG degrees and 4.0s on the pre-reqs. I wouldn't have a chance and to me it is not worth the effort when I know from the outset that it is absolutely hopeless.

I think I will just focus my efforts on the ADN program but if I make a single B on any pre-req, I think I can reasonably throw in the towel since I probably wouldn't get in ever.

What is your GPA?

I had a 1.6. Yep, a 1.6 after my first year of school because I had a new baby and a psychotic husband. I failed out of school the first try.

I ended up owing my school $1015.75.

I got two jobs, had two small children with me, I lived with my mom, had to go to a school 30 minutes away and I had to drive my kids to daycare 20 minutes one way and then go to school 45 minutes away. I saved enough money to pay the school back, move out, and then start school in the place I started.

I started over in the nursing school pre-reqs and pulled up to a 3.1. I applied at six schools and got into one on the first try.

All through this, I had my little kids, my husband verbal and mentally abusing me, he threatened to kill himself, he hit me, he kept trying to undermine me on every turn.

I still made it through all that and I'm giving you the mild version of what went on.

The very last obstacle to me getting into school was one stupid math class which ended up being calculus of all things and I self taught myself in one month, took the final exam for it and passed.

I moved 250 miles away from family and friends to a strange city with two small children and no job, little money.

Then I find out my husband has moved in with another woman (big surprise).

I've been depressed, though I've never wanted to kill myself ( I couldn't leave them alone to deal with their crazy father), but I know what it is to be down. I've had times I've had no car, no electricity, no phone, all kinds of bad experiences.

I'm still here though and I have yet to fail even one exam in nursing school.

So, I'm sorry if this sounds harsh, but PLEASE!

Everyone has been through something, but many can tell you it's possible to make it through.

If you want to go to nursing school, you can, I don't give a damn what you have going on.

If you can't find it in yourself to be positive right now, get on some meds, get some counseling, come to allnurses for support, go to God, do WHATEVER you have to, but don't say it's impossible, because it isn't.

There are people on this thread that have talked me through some things (go back to my Oct. 2005 posts) and I wouldn't be here if they didn't.

They probably don't even realize the impact they made, but they did (Fun2Care and Gauge, I'm talking about ya'll among other people ;) ).

I'm thinking about moving to Texas because there are some really great people there from what I see on this website.

You can do whatever you put your mind to.

Okay - quick neurotic question - lol. How long before school starts will the classes show up on Blackboard-e-campus? I'm curious to see all the stuff, and it's not showing up quick enough for me...Impatience is a fault of mine in case you hadn't guessed.

Thanks guys,

Kathy
