Jaxia,

I saw that quote on someone's profile on this site (can't remember who). I just thought it fit and I 110% agree with it.

What is your GPA?

I had a 1.6. Yep, a 1.6 after my first year of school because I had a new baby and a psychotic husband. I failed out of school the first try.

I ended up owing my school $1015.75.

I got two jobs, had two small children with me, I lived with my mom, had to go to a school 30 minutes away and I had to drive my kids to daycare 20 minutes one way and then go to school 45 minutes away. I saved enough money to pay the school back, move out, and then start school in the place I started.

I started over in the nursing school pre-reqs and pulled up to a 3.1. I applied at six schools and got into one on the first try.

All through this, I had my little kids, my husband verbal and mentally abusing me, he threatened to kill himself, he hit me, he kept trying to undermine me on every turn.

I still made it through all that and I'm giving you the mild version of what went on.

The very last obstacle to me getting into school was one stupid math class which ended up being calculus of all things and I self taught myself in one month, took the final exam for it and passed.

I moved 250 miles away from family and friends to a strange city with two small children and no job, little money.

Then I find out my husband has moved in with another woman (big surprise).

I've been depressed, though I've never wanted to kill myself ( I couldn't leave them alone to deal with their crazy father), but I know what it is to be down. I've had times I've had no car, no electricity, no phone, all kinds of bad experiences.

I'm still here though and I have yet to fail even one exam in nursing school.

So, I'm sorry if this sounds harsh, but PLEASE!

Everyone has been through something, but many can tell you it's possible to make it through.

If you want to go to nursing school, you can, I don't give a damn what you have going on.

If you can't find it in yourself to be positive right now, get on some meds, get some counseling, come to allnurses for support, go to God, do WHATEVER you have to, but don't say it's impossible, because it isn't.

There are people on this thread that have talked me through some things (go back to my Oct. 2005 posts) and I wouldn't be here if they didn't.

They probably don't even realize the impact they made, but they did (Fun2Care and Gauge, I'm talking about ya'll among other people ;) ).

I'm thinking about moving to Texas because there are some really great people there from what I see on this website.

You can do whatever you put your mind to.

Wow...that is...intense. My GPA was never that bad; I started my second year with a 4.0 that was dragged through the floor when I got depressed and had a nervous breakdown my junior year. I limped to graduation and did not even make an effort during my senior year; all I did was enough to get by, which earned me straight Cs and Ds. What I should have done was take a medical leave of absence from school, retake all the classes I was currently in, and graduate a semester later. However, at the time I was afraid that if I dropped out, I'd never go back and given my state of mind, I probably would not have. If I had it to do all over again, I don't think I would have gone to UT in the first place.

I know there are people who've had it worse than me and who have overcome a lot more than what I will have to, but when you're at the beginning and you see all the obstacles in front of you it's really hard to think that you'll ever get through it. My college experience left me so scarred that my confidence is zero, and the BSN programs I've talked to in north Texas...all of them, basically...have said that with my UG GPA, I should not waste my time or theirs. It's a serious blow to the ego and it isn't doing much for my self-esteem at the moment.

I appreciate the post though; it's good to know that it's possible to overcome a lot of obstacles to get to your goal. I think what I need to do is just enroll in an online class or two to get some of the pre-reqs squared away, and boost my confidence. I could do that if I could figure out how to from the DCCCD's website, which sucks!

Our hesi test will be in the basement of ECC. (Hmmm, do they try to suggest something? :roll ) Anyway, I have never been there, I guess I just need to find a staircase going down. :)

Yeah, I should have taken a leave to or dropped the classes, but I was 20 years old, so I guess I wasn't thinking. Plus, I lived in family housing on campus, so I guess I thought I had to stay and try.

On top of everything else, three weeks after I had my little girl, I had this pain in my chest and I thought I was having a heart attack!

I had this pain intermittently for 8 months. I went to the ER 8 times with attacks of pain and I missed so much class because I'd wake up in the middle of the night or I would not have slept because I was up all night with the pain.

The very first time I went to the ER via ambulance because I thought I was dying ( the pain is that bad) the nurse actually asked me about what was really wrong with me, but ended up saying that I was too young to have them.

Turns out I did have GALLSTONES, and that pain is worse than childbirth!

Anyway, that and all the other stuff I had going on contributed to my failing out. I think I only passed one or two classes during that, not because I couldn't do it, but because I didn't go to class d/t depression, the new baby, the gallstones, and the abuse.

I know you can be a nurseif you want to. Just believe in your abilities.

I wonder if one can study too much for pharm. :clown:

You need that info that is on the pharm cards. You can also review level 1 and 2 packets from Ms. T. and your pharm book.

But what exactly???:

Brand/generic

Indications

Implementation

S/E

Do you need ot know Onset/Peak, etc all that other stuff?

We don't have any pharm stuff yet. I do have the packets from the SNA website. Is a list of meds that we will be responsible for in the pharm book, or do they give us one?

Are the cards you sent to me a while back pretty much right on, or were y'alls totally different?

There is a list of drugs on the board at NLC. I don't remember what cards I sent you but I can send the last edition of cards that I was given. You need to read everything that is on the cards but focus on the action, nursing intervention, serious and weird side effects. Again, read everything because they can ask anything that is on the cards.

Katie

Edit: they don't test on brand and generic name but know at least one of them. :)

We were told by the teachers that there supposed to be something posted on e-campus, but I have yet to see anything. So what is the other stuff you guys are talking about? Could you guys possibly email me some info for it , I would greatly appreciate it? (PM, me) Thanks
