i know some of us have received our letters so i was wondering who else i will be making this journey with for the next 2 years.

my name is allison shaffer and it's nice to meet you. i know we will all be close because it's a small group. it would be nice to get to know some of you before november 17. :)

Thank you!!

I agree Sunnyjohn. I had A's in clinical and skills but lecture is what was killing me. I believe lecture tests does not prove how anyone would be as a nurse and I paid all of that money, I should be allowed to decide if I should drop or not.

I am one of those people who had to drop because of that rule and I am not happy about the whole situation. I have left messages with several faculty at El Centro and so far no one has called me back and I have contacted a lawyer now. I don't think it is fair for everyone who had to drop. If the person who is staying in the program now is forced to drop than I am really sorry but I think if we all followed the rules, than she should too.

At THR, they told us that there is a math equation that proves if you score 2 grades of 70 or below, it's highly unlikely that you would pass. I will tell you from experience.... I scored a 66 on the first test and I had to make at least 80-84 on every other test just to get a 78. Imagine if you had 2 66's... you would probably need A's on the other lecture exams! Test 2, I got an 84 and Test 3 I got an 86. Even after those grades, I only had a 78.666! I had to make an A on Test 4 to give me some cushion for the final... I got a 92 which gave me an average of 82 and that's still a C! Honestly... I think the rule protects people because your GPA determines whether or not you get back in, and with a D or F... it will probably decrease your chances. Good luck to you!!!

I don't think a math equation should tell us weather we are capable of passing or not. If someone has 2 60's there could be a chance of passing with at least a 78 if someone studied their butt off for the rest of the tests. I don't think they should decide if we should drop or not. We are the ones who pay and we should be the ones to decide if we can make it to a 78 or not. I only took 2 tests, if I was given the chance of taking the 3rd test before the drop date than I could have figured out if I could have made it to a 78. I had this problem last semester too. I didn't have 2 grades below 70 though but I almost didn't make it to a 78. I decided to stay and actually made higher than a 78 because I was determined to pass and I should have been given that option this semester too. I just don't think they should be allowed to make the decisions for us when we are adults and we can make the decision ourselves and we are the ones who spend all of that money. I could have at least tried to bring it up and that is what I wanted to do but instead I was forced to drop. Anyways I just think the whole system is screwed up. Good luck to you too! :)

Come to find out she got a few extra points on a test so she did not have 2 grades 70 and below. Just 1 because the other test she said she got a few points. This is what the lecture teacher told me when she called me back.

Just wanted to wish everyone good luck this semester and the rest of the time they are in nursing school. :)

I was just reading what you guys were saying about the 1st semester book pack. That thing is $529 plus tax. I have not bought it yet - the bookstore won't have them for 2 more weeks. I stil haven't decided if I want to buy it yet. Does anyone have the book pack from 1st semester that they would like to sell? Even if you don't have the whole pack I would be interested in individual books as well in good condition with little to no highlighting or writing. Feel free to PM.

hmmm.

I could be wrong but this almost sounds like a cover-up to keep from getting sued for letting 1 person slide through the cracks. The student says she failed, the teacher says she didn't.

I went to UTA on Friday to talk to an advisor about RN-BSN. UTA has the largest enrollment in a BSN program in Texas and they have 98.8% first time pass rate on the NCLEX, which was the highest of any school in Texas in 2005. With that being said about a school that has such a high number of enrolled students why does ECC / NL feel like they have to "kill" 75% of their RN students so they can have such high pass rates. ??? UTA has proved that is not necessary.

It's not only the RN program. I went through another health program at El Centro and it felt exactly the same way. It's the culture on that campus. Just look at the experiences people have with that Health Occupations Office. I think everyone here has a story!

The director of my program at EC was so frazzeled that at times I worried about her health. I honestly feel that the faculty are so stressed out that it translates into a bad time for the students.

I think it's to keep the reputation. ECC has a good rep for producing qualified health occupation students.

Just because a school's NLCEX pass rate is good, doesn't mean that the nurses are good nurses. (That's not saying they aren't either..lol ....I have a friend who graduated from UTA, so I have to cover my butt on that comment. LOL!)

ALSO...............THE SCHOOL IS NOT ALLOWED TO DISCUSS OTHER STUDENT'S GRADES WITH PEOPLE. IF THAT LADY DID SAY THAT, SHE CAN GET IN SOME MAJOR TROUBLE!

I agree. I just wish I could prove it.
