Well, we got our ATTs!!! I am scheduled on Jan 13, at 8 am along with several others from our class. I was hoping to take it before we left for the cruise, rather than right after, but there weren't any appointments open :(

Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone has any 4th semester information that they would like to share or sell :p. I have no idea what to expect from 4th. There seems to be a whole lot more to do than there was 3rd. Any help would be greatly appreciated. You-guys are soooo lucky to be out of the circus (ECC)!!

this website that i am sending you the link to has free nclex questions that really helped me during school and after. it is the nclex 3500, i know there is a new one out there with more questions, but hey the site is free and it has the dreaded multiple answer sata questions!!!! good luck to you with 4th semester.

I was wondering if some of the GN from ECC could tell me about the clinical sites/ instructor options for 4th semester. For some reason, this semester ECC has us on some guessing game as to what to expect. It was rumored that we may be able to have a preceptor as an option. I was wondering if someone could respond or PM me some specifics about having a preceptor such as are you allowed to pick critical care such as ER/ICU or is it just MedSurg. Also what are the pros and cons of selecting the preceptor clinical vs regular clincal.

Thanks in advance,

Nola

I was also wondering if some graduates who went into critical care ER/ICU could tell me if ECC prepared you to go straight into these areas. If anyone who went into these areas, did you apply for an externship that may have helped you. Also what hospitals have you found to have excellent internships for GN as well as what hospitals do you like/dislike working and why. Please make a list if possible or if any other graduates have stated reasons they like/dislike where they work. Also I was wondering, how did you select your hospital to start your career.

Thanks in advance,

Nola

Most internships around here prepare you for what you're really going to need to know.

I know a couple of students did the Charlton Methodist ER extern thing, and stayed with it after graduating.

Either way, school prepares you to take the NCLEX, and basic nursing knowledge.....a foundation to grow from. You get the real education when you are 'out on your own'.

Best of luck. :)

I know the precepted clinicals finished earlier than mine. lol

You can plan your schedule according to the preceptor's schedule. (If you can't work on Wednesdays right now, then you could choose to work on the other two days that the preceptor works on...etc...as long as you get the required amount of hours.)

Sorry Nola - all us GN's were out in the middle of the Caribbean soaking up the sun and parasailing and snorkeling and such. But, we're back now!!!! Preceptorships at Baylor Irving, you got to request an area, but not guaranteed. I was in ER (as was Jaxia). I am going on to an internship in the ER starting next Monday - Jaxia is doing OR. There is still a lot to learn, but I feel like the internship will prepare me. I take my NCLEX on Tuesday!! Everyone think good thoughts for me! BTW Fun, do you remember how long it took to "search" and find yourself on the BON website? I'm trying to decide if it is worthwhile to pay for the early result. What do you think??
