El Centro/North Lake - Fall 08

Starting a new thread for the next class at EC/NL...:yeah:

Congrats to all..... :bugeyes::lol2:

Any of the older students/alumni out there that can give us words of wisdom/advise we would love to hear it....

We've pulled the book lists for both EC & NL Spring 08 - what books do we REALLY need off of the required lists and which can we do without? Also, what support books do we REALLY need?

Thanks to all....:D

Thank you! :)

I had my first semester clinical at the VA, and welcomed the experience.

We didn't have the HPRS class before starting, so I hope you get to do a bunch!

I have not received mine either. He did say probably about 6 weeks. So I am not concerned yet.

I have VA Hospital on Tuesdays.

So have you bought your books yet. What about shoes.

I did not buy the scrub pants. I thought they were so ugly. Did the Men scrubs have draw strings? I cannot remember but I am thinking about buying my own scrub pants like Dickies, and taking the red tag off.

I bought my own scrub pants, but I don't remember which brand. They were much more comfortable, IMO.

Good luck!

I bought my own scrub pants too....Cherokee Workwear, black, draw string, flared legs.

You shouldn't have to take the logo tag off...I never did.

If you are going to wear a shirt underneath, please, make it black. It looks better, and some instructors insist.

I never wore the lab coat after the first semester. I think I brought it during 2nd, but hardly wore it. I just think the long white lab coats are stupid, and scare children anyway.

Best wishes to all of you...can't say I'm going to miss it. :clown:

I was the other way around -- I wore my lab coat pretty much every day because I'm very cold natured. I tried undershirts, but I couldn't (easily) take them off when I got too warm.

The extra pockets were handy, too :)

I do have a white lab coat that I like, but I it's not a long straight one.

It's a short-length coat and gathers/ties in the back. ....It's cute. LOL

I would've worn mine if we got to choose out a variety of styles. :(

Hi Billie!

I believe we had lunch together during orientation.

Oh good, you haven't gotten your scrubs either. Whew. I've bought my books, but not my shoes. I'm planning on getting a pair of black reeboks.

Thanks for the reassurance with the scrubs. If you get yours and I don't get mine I might be requesting contact info. :)

Michele

FYI - be on the lookout for your scrubs! Got mine yesterday. Not the most attractive on but hey, we at least look "official" now! :chuckle

Thanks Kristina! I got mine too! I also found my receipt a couple of days ago so my whole post was a bit moot.

Thanks for letting me know!

Michele

Hi Everyone,

Michele I do remember you. I am disappointed we did not get the same clinical day.

I also got my scrubs yesterday. I guess I did buy the horrible, ugly black scrub pants. I don't think I will wear them. I want drawstring and flare leg. I love my Dickies.

I still have not bought the book box. I will buy it a couple weeks before school starts. I need to go try on some good nursing shoes. I know that my feet and legs will ache after a long day of clinical if I have just tennis shoes.

I am also wanting to get a really good stethoscope. I just have the one bought in the book store.

Do we have to purchase a Syllabus?

I got a Littmann II SE last year for HPRS after I embarrassed myself with a $10.00 Walgreen special. It's now a toy for my son. This is the Littmann here:

Do you think anyone (i.e. Galloway) will care that it's raspberry? :chuckle

I'm curious about the syllabus too. I am so nervous/excited to get started.

I've never seen or heard of anyone complaining about the color of a stethoscope :D Mine is purple!
