El Centro/North Lake - Fall 08

Published

Starting a new thread for the next class at EC/NL...:yeah:

Congrats to all..... :bugeyes::lol2:

Any of the older students/alumni out there that can give us words of wisdom/advise we would love to hear it....

We've pulled the book lists for both EC & NL Spring 08 - what books do we REALLY need off of the required lists and which can we do without? Also, what support books do we REALLY need?

Thanks to all....:D

I have a Small top (still in the plastic wrapper) I would sell if anyone is interested. I bought three and really only needed two.

PM me if interested.

EC students - let us know how orientation was...

Had orientation today at NLC...

Heather, good to meet you and great to put a face with a name! Need to get Holly on here...

I got VA with BJ for clinicals on Tues - 7AM-7PM...Hoping this is a good thing!

It seems they are basically making us buy the Book Box this semester ($815). I asked b/c I already have some of the books and was told I could sale my dups online. I'm not really happy about this as I like my hard back books and don't like reading long articles/texts on a screen...AARRGGHH

This semester the lecture is on Tegrity with our lecture class being used as application/case study/etc time and it will be 2 hours instead of 4 hrs. Fun.. fun...

Anybody have/use a PDA? Like it?

Hey everyone! Congrats on getting accepted, and good luck to you all!

Just remember, 'IT'S DOABLE'...the advice I always give! ECC will drive you nuts, but what kept me sane was to remember that other students made it through!

.

I bought a PDA, and loved it. You really don't 'NEED' one, but I had Davis Drug guide, plus some other stuff. It did come in handy.

I also had a trial version of NCLEX questions on mine. That helps too.

I purchased the book box only because I wanted the CD!!! I only used the books on the computer, and sold most of the books on ebay half-way through. haha

Anyway, I'm subscribing to this thread, but remember there are 4 (?) other ECC threads out there with possible good information.

Again, best of luck and congrats to you all!

Hey,

good luck to you all for the upcoming start in NS.

As Fun 2 care states , ECC can drive you crazy, but you just have to put your heart in what you want, and study and read up on your own.

It is hard to believe they would "make you" buy the Book box. If you don't want to buy it, I would not do it. Just go online on ECC's website and go the bookstore link (http://www.bkstr.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/LocateCourseMaterialsView?storeId=10666&callingJsp=FLDisplayBookSearch.jsp&demoKey=d&programId=64&demoKey=d&programId=64&termId=100009079), then check out what books are listed for your semester and section, and buy those where ever you want. That is what I did and I saved half of what the others paid, by buying them used at Amazon. I bought the box first semester and never used the CD's. They tell you, you need it for case studies and such, but if you know how to use an index in the back of the book, you are good to go. Plus the books come with the box, so you basically have everything double., and that's what you are paying for. A waste in my opinion. There are some in my class that never bought a psych book for third semester, so how can they make you buy the box. They just won't tell you the ISBN numbers, because they want to make the money.

If you are not sure which of the books listed you really need, because there are some study materials listed, then ask your classmates for the ISBN numbers.

Are they doing all 4 semesters online this semester? We were the guinnea pigs on that at North Lake with 3rd and 4th semesters being online. :uhoh3:

Hi Everyone,

I am going to ECC this Fall. I was really shocked over the price of the books. But I will buy them. I really like Hard Back books, so I am not sure how much I will use the cd/online books. I figure it would be great for class, so I don't have to carry books with me.

My Clinical is VA on Tuesday with Galloway.

with acceptance into nursing school (after years of dreaming about it), the last part of this story really kicks you in the gut:

[color=#105cb6]a nurse's prayer

the world grows better year by year,

because some nurse in her little sphere,

puts on her apron and grins and sings,

and keeps on doing the same old things.

taking the termperatures, giving the pills

to remedy mankind's numberless ills;

feeding the baby, answering the bells

being polite with a heart that rebels.

longing for home and all the while

wearing the same old professional smile;

blessing the new born babe's first breathe

closing the eyese that are still in death.

taking the blame for the doctor's mistakes,

oh dear, what a lot of patience it takes;

going off duty at seven o'clock

tired, discouraged, and ready to drop.

but called back on special at seven fifteen

with woe in her heart, but it must not be seen,

morning and evening, and noon and night,

just doing it over and hoping it's right.

when we lay down our caps and cross the bar

oh lord, will you give us just one little star,

to wear in our crowns with our uniforms, new

in that city above, where the head nurse is you.

Hello, my fellow ECC Fall '08 classmates!

I found allnurses.com a couple of weeks ago and finally found my way to this thread. I can't believe it took me so long!

So, I wanted to say hello and also ask if anyone has received their scrubs yet. I haven't yet and I'm concerned because I don't think I was given my receipt. I don't want to get right down to class time and not have scrubs to wear. That would be bad.

Well, I hope you are all relaxing and taking it easy until August 25th!

Welcome to AllNurses, first of all. :)

I've never heard of anyone not getting their scrubs in time, so I'm sure you'll get them in time.

I know it's always easier to have everything to calm the nerves.

Good luck to you. ....Will you be at NLC or ECC?

Thanks Fun2Care! And good luck to you on the 21st!

I'll be at ECC and at the VA on Thursdays with Galloway.
