Starting a new thread for the next class at EC/NL...
Congrats to all.....
Any of the older students/alumni out there that can give us words of wisdom/advise we would love to hear it....
We've pulled the book lists for both EC & NL Spring 08 - what books do we REALLY need off of the required lists and which can we do without? Also, what support books do we REALLY need?
Thanks to all....
sorry for the delay. i didn't waste any tine get my hours increased at work so i've been MIA. I sent the reading assignments via e-mail to everyone that requested them. If you didn't get them or can't open them let me know.
i agree about having a good printer. I've spent more than early morning (like 4 AM, if not earlier) trips to Kinko's than I care to recount. There will be a lot of good resources on e-campus for you to download/print. not to mention all of the different forms and stuff you'll need for clinicals.
Another book that I really like is 'Nursing Diagnosis: A guide to planning care' by Ackley and Ladwig. I didn't completely depend on it but used it to give me some ideas when I my brain was fried and I couldn't think of any meaningful rationales or interventions. I'm not even sure if I would buy the book because you can access pretty much everything online. http://www1.us.elsevierhealth.com/Evolve/Ackley/NDH6e/Constructor/
Potter and Perry (the main 1st semester txtbk) has a new edition coming out. From the sample chapter that they posted online, it seems like they have made some good changes.
i never thought about buying another fundamentals book for extra examples but seems like an ingenious idea now that I think about it.
i'll be sure to let you know if i think of anything else....

I just found this link on another thread here on allnurses and thought I'd post it here. The site looks like it would be a help
when's orientation?godspeed - did you get my e-mail w/ the reading assignments?
CRAP!!! Where's my handout with the orientation meeting time and date???
I've kept everything in the same envelope in my work bag...I can't figure out what it looks like. Can someone tell me?
CRAP, CRAP, CRAP.
Yes, chickpea...Thanks for the reading assignments. I bought a cheap used book off ebay to start reading, but I can't find a good deal on the Med/Surg book.
Is the orientation/registration date time flyer the one with the "Uniforms!" info?
The cover letter says "A flyer is enclosed with information regarding the mandatory orientation/registration seminar scheduled in June at your assigned campus where we will explain the nursing clas schedule for the Fall and you will select your schedule of classes for the nursing lecture and clinical."
The "Uniform!" flyer has the dates and times but it's mainly focused on getting sized and fitted for uniforms. "UNIFORMS!" is the bold header/title of the flyer. The body of the flyer doesn't say anything like: "These are the dates and times for your mandatory registration/orientation seminars blah, blah, blah..." but it does have dates & time by campus... :uhoh21: I'm so confusededed.
I know I haven't misplaced any other forms or flyers... What say ye?
Orientation:ECC- 6/17/08 1:30am to 5pm Room P-705
Northlake- 6/19/08 (probably the same time)You will have to call and find out.
Uniform fittings are from 10a-12:30pm for both days.[...]

If anyone can email the reading assignments, it would be greatly appreciated. Wanted to get some material this weekend and I'm sure chickpea9 is just busy or somethin'...
By the way... The whole "...ya that goes hoo..." thing is because it's not a good idea to post your email address into a forum...Ever wonder why you're getting so much SPAM or why you're so popular in Nigeria???

Find a creative way to reference your email address if you want to share it in a forum. :typing 99% (+/-) of email harvesting is automatic and the "bot" is looking for familiar email components (i.e. "@yahoo.com").
Anywho...just a little PSA for a pleasant allnurses forum experience.
Please send me the reading assignments if you have a moment - Email above. Thanks!
