El Centro/North Lake - Fall 08
It's gonna be a Sales Tax Holiday this weekend... Does anyone have access or knowledge of some of the stuff we might consider getting for clinicals to take advantage of zero sales tax? I'll be getting my scrub bottoms and the all black shoes. How about supplies? Med scissors, stethoscope (if you haven't bought a good one), Sponge bob lunch box , etc...

Anyone worried about throwing up or passing out?
If you really want to try and get over the gore/nausea factor, my recommendation is to use the the vast amounts of gore pics available on the internet... Accident scene or morgue photos of a someone mutilated in a fatal accident isn't something you're going to ever really see in an ER, but if you can handle the extreme, the other stuff will be easier to..."digest". Kind of a funny story: A long, long time ago when I was in the military, I spent a month at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. During a lunch break one day, I went to check out the medical library they had on site. The place had some great books. One book I pulled to browse was a big book of different ER traumas. This book had almost everything you could find in an ER and it had a lot of pictures... Well, as I'm flipping the pages and mesmerized by all the different trauma pics and descriptions, I notice that I'm starting to feel really, really nauseous...and it's getting worse the more graphic the pictures are. It gets so bad that I had to close the book and walk outside for some air. As I'm walking out, one of the library staff comments on how green I look... lol I don't know what was worse; the radical rectal prolapses or the various deglovings... That was a long time ago and since then and recently in prep for my nursing education, I made it a practice to seek out gory pictures on various internet sites in order to desensitize myself - visually. The other senses may or may not be as trained as the visual, but half the battle is done. There's all kinds of "gore" websites on the net, but there's no need to give 'em free advertising... Best place to start is a Google Image search without filtering. When your results come up, make sure "Safe Search is off".

with acceptance into nursing school (after years of dreaming about it), the last part of this story really kicks you in the gut: http://www.nbc5i.com/news/16679613/detail.html [color=#105cb6]a nurse's prayer the world grows better year by year, because some nurse in her little sphere, puts on her apron and grins and sings, and keeps on doing the same old things. taking the termperatures, giving the pills to remedy mankind's numberless ills; feeding the baby, answering the bells being polite with a heart that rebels. longing for home and all the while wearing the same old professional smile; blessing the new born babe's first breathe closing the eyese that are still in death. taking the blame for the doctor's mistakes, oh dear, what a lot of patience it takes; going off duty at seven o'clock tired, discouraged, and ready to drop. but called back on special at seven fifteen with woe in her heart, but it must not be seen, morning and evening, and noon and night, just doing it over and hoping it's right. when we lay down our caps and cross the bar oh lord, will you give us just one little star, to wear in our crowns with our uniforms, new in that city above, where the head nurse is you. - lifted from "my travel companion prayer book" by reb. juan m.h. ledesma

You do have a different form!!! I don't have that form! Arrrrggh!!!:sasq: (Dramatic for effect, but I am missing a flyer...)

El Centro/North Lake - Fall 08
Is the orientation/registration date time flyer the one with the "Uniforms!" info? The cover letter says "A flyer is enclosed with information regarding the mandatory orientation/registration seminar scheduled in June at your assigned campus where we will explain the nursing clas schedule for the Fall and you will select your schedule of classes for the nursing lecture and clinical." The "Uniform!" flyer has the dates and times but it's mainly focused on getting sized and fitted for uniforms. "UNIFORMS!" is the bold header/title of the flyer. The body of the flyer doesn't say anything like: "These are the dates and times for your mandatory registration/orientation seminars blah, blah, blah..." but it does have dates & time by campus... :uhoh21: I'm so confusededed. I know I haven't misplaced any other forms or flyers... What say ye?

CRAP!!! Where's my handout with the orientation meeting time and date??? I've kept everything in the same envelope in my work bag...I can't figure out what it looks like. Can someone tell me? CRAP, CRAP, CRAP. Yes, chickpea...Thanks for the reading assignments. I bought a cheap used book off ebay to start reading, but I can't find a good deal on the Med/Surg book.

El Centro/North Lake - Fall 08
If anyone can email the reading assignments, it would be greatly appreciated. Wanted to get some material this weekend and I'm sure chickpea9 is just busy or somethin'... By the way... The whole "...ya that goes hoo..." thing is because it's not a good idea to post your email address into a forum...Ever wonder why you're getting so much SPAM or why you're so popular in Nigeria??? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E-mail_address_harvesting Find a creative way to reference your email address if you want to share it in a forum. :typing 99% (+/-) of email harvesting is automatic and the "bot" is looking for familiar email components (i.e. "@yahoo.com"). Anywho...just a little PSA for a pleasant allnurses forum experience. Please send me the reading assignments if you have a moment - Email above. Thanks!

Correct - Pants and shoes, black. Top, blue with embroidered logo. Lab coat, white with logo. Overall look??? Yeah...not lookin' forward to the uniform. Too dark...At least it'll be "slimming". Maybe I should wear some eyeliner or guy-liner to achieve the whole nursing-goth look. Black lab coats would be okay for the whole sexy, contemporary look ala "nip/tuck". They prolly want us to stick out like sore :chair:

Future Fall '08 El Centro/North Lake Students
Got my first choice - El Centro. Seriously considered North Lake, but El Centro was more practical overall. North Lake would have probably required a move and my apartment is in a good area and CHEEEP! Got so much to do before September, the last thing I want to worry about is finding some new diggs... Parking is crap @ EC, but I'll need to go hard core with the train. Have considered buying a motorcycle...
