Hi
Just wondering if any EC RN's recieved an questionaire about their RN distant education, their first RN job obtained after becoming a RN and satification regarding distant education? I recieved one yesterday from NCSBN (NOT NCLEX). It even asks about how many times you took the CPNE?
So just wondering anyone else get the questionaire?

Yes, I received mine today. Didn't know what to make of it. I thought it was going to be more general, but it dealt with Excelsior. I don't know what is going on but, I will send it back. Without Excelsior it would have been hard for me to get my RN and probably for a lot of people.

GAIL!
Holy crap I logged in today to post that same question! Except my 4 page questionnaire is not from NCLEX it is from the NCSBM (nat'l council of state boards of nursing), which, I guess means the same thing really. I passed my CPNE in November of 2008. Passed my NCLEX in January of 2009.
Are you going to fill it out and send it in? I am skeptical; while I want to share my experiences with Excelsior (which I felt were AWESOME) I feel a little weird about the whole idea. Or maybe I'm paranoid. I don't know if something is brewing.
The survey asks how satisfied I am with EC, how many times I took the CPNE, education prior to enrolling with EC, where I work (for distributing a general employer survey), how many pts I take care of, how much orientation I received on the job, how competent I feel in my job etc.
I really have nothing but positive things to say about EC and getting through the program so I think I will send it in just so they know. It was challenging and it prepared me well. I just feel weird about the board's intentions with this.

Here is an excerpt from the letter.
"I am writing to ask for your help in an important study of nursing education, transition and safe practice issues faced by newly licensed nurses. The NCSBN is conducting a study to address the practice performance of graduates from traditional and nontraditional nursing programs. This study, together with studies conducted by other institutions will provide better understanding of the differences in new nurses, from different educational programs. ..... Information you provide can better help the public understand the competency based educational model of your nursing program. It will be helpful in improving evidence based nursing education and regulation."
OK woow...
YES I was incorrect it is truly from NCSBN NOT NCLEX.
SO SORRY FOLK...I worked night shift last PM...opps..
But wanted to get it out here.
IF it were not for EC I would not be an RN.
I was an LPN, work full time and you know this was the right thing to do.....
It asked for how many times you took the CPNE..so they are somewhat specific...
I dont know what I will do with this either....

Yep, I'm sending mine out in the mail, I've decided. The board needs to know that I had a great experience with EC.I found a link to another study the board of nursing did on the NCLEX exam linking it to acutal practice, and while hard to read the parts I could understand were pretty interesting. https://www.ncsbn.org/vol_21_web.pdf
I'll be curious to hear if any of my friends that graduated from traditional schools get a survey though.
I would be interested in hearing what officials at Excelsior have to say about this, both officially and unofficially.

Hi All,
I just completed a survery from The North Carolina Board of Nursing sent to me for 1st yr RN traditional vs non-traditional nursing schools. It was a very comprehensive survery about my education with Excelsior. I completed the survery and I felt really good scoring high marks in my skill level after my education with Excelsior. I hope that other non-traditional students in NC score Excelsior with high marks on the survey as well. I feel with all my heart that the Excelsior education prepared me just a well as students at a traditional school. Just wanted to share. NC is an Excelsior friendly state and I want to keep it like that!
April 20,2009 will be my 1yr anniversary employed as a RN. It has been a rollercoaster ride but nothing I could not handle. I feel good about my decision to do Excelsior!
Yes I recieved mine also on Saturday and started a similar posting. It pretty much is targeting EC, asking about how many times you took the CPNE. I am planning on submiting mine but would like to enclude a written letter as well, because they do not leave room for comments and my choice to do my Rn through EC, was because I couldn't do it any other way and the questionair does not leave room for why we did it this way...

thanks for the link! That was good to look at.
I know it is important, but you state a good point, wondering if traditional schooled RN will be getting a similar questionaire.
I took my RN through EC because I could not just quit my LPN job and go to school, as the only RN school in my area was a day program. My sister in law was successful with EC and so I did it also, passed the CPNE one time and there you go...

I got my survey in the mail, too. I'll be sending it off promptly! I think it's important to participate, and with the emphasis on evidence-based practice in the nursing world, I think this can only help EC's credibility.
