Eating Boogers??? Is this for real?

Nurses General Nursing

i have worked with a nurse for nearly 20 years and she has this "habit" of "munching". she doesn't care who is around, what setting she is in... pt's room, elevator with a physician or staff meeting of 50. she digs for gold, pulls it out ... examines her "treasures" so carefully and then chomps down like it was a frito! our medical director witnessed this display of "healthy lifestyle" and puked where he stood... right next to her on the elevator! the patients have complained, laffed and scolded her. one older lady even slapped her hand "for such a nasty thing". we have a running joke that we will bring in biscuits and make sandwiches! if she wants to dig for gold that's fine but do it privately. its like pulling out a wedgie, you're not going to do it in the checkout line at walmart!!!:rotfl:
does she have any other odd bodily habits, possibly regarding bathroom details? it could be some kind of compulsive thing, one symptom of ocd

I want to see a human research study regarding this. Any takers? :chuckle

As I was thinking, if nasal secretions can boost the immune system when it is eaten, imagine what eating the pus out of an infected wound would do? :p

Yikes! At first I thought the article was a joke, similar to the tongue and cheek articles you read in the Onion. I would think that putting your fingers up your nose would serve to increase your risk of illness. If you haven't recently washed your hands, then you have just innoculated yourself with every creepy organism that may be lurking on your finger. On the other hand (no pun intended) perhaps there is a truth to the immune theory in a homeopathic sort of way. If you are continuously innoculating yourself with small amounts of bacteria or virus, you do stimulate the immune system. I wonder how difficult it would be to get a research grant on this concept. From what I see of people "digging and dining" while driving to work, it shouldn't be too difficult to get a study population!

By the way, Tweety.... I see an interesting association between this article and the Zen quote in your signature.... "Just carefully taste the present - that is enough!"
