"Easy" LPN jobs

Nurses LPN/LVN

Updated:   Published

After doing my clinicals in LTC's as an LPN student (first semester) I realized that maybe I won't fit in nursing. I guess if I have to stay I have to find a job (after I graduate) that's less LTC type. I wonder if there are ER/OR/prison jobs/doctor office jopbs for LPN's.

Where are the "easy" jobs for LPN's? I am not scared of the fast paced ER type setting. Not scared of blood and death. I hate the constant smell of body waste and I have zero patience for it. But Other than that I can do nursing.

Any intelligent response?

I felt the same way while in LPN school. I hated our hospital and nursing home rotations. I wanted something different. I am now employed at a center for the developmentally and/or physically challlanged. .

Our hospital rotations ended up being just like LTC. Finally people threw absolute fits about doing nothing meaningful and not learning nursing skills (seems like we mostly gave baths, fed and changed attends) that they finally gave us a break from doing the employed NA's jobs and we got to do skills.

I worked with the developmentally disabled for 9 years before going to PN school..... loved it! Now I do pediatric nursing with the same population..

Well today was my first real chance working the doctors line in my prison.

My doc was on fire, he saw over 35 patients in a 8 hour period.

you mentioned working in a prison was "easy". It all depends on how you look at it. I know Lvn at the prison who didn't see any patients today.

My day went by fast I didn't sit down the whole day unless I was transcribing orders for the doc or faxing info to Pharmacy.

I'll tell you one thing if you like typing out orders forget about working at a prison. Everything is handwritten. We went through alot of paperwork.

The prison is about 10 yrs behind the times. OT's are the only ones who have computer access and forget about the internet.

No cellphones, laptops or PDA's aloud either.

I am a night shift home health care nurse. I work a t least 60 hours a week one vent peds patient. plenty of time to study. I made more than my sister made at the VA.

"Easy" nursing job ha! there isnt any such thing

In the 1980's I had an easy LPN job. I took care of a little boy who was mentally retarded and had a peg tube. I had so much fun! I would put him in his stroller and we would go down by the beach and I would window shop and look at the ocean. It was great! I use to tell his Mom, "I should be paying you for all the fun I'm having.";)

Is it just me or does anybody else think the OP is looking to do the bare minimum and "just get by"? I certainly would not want a nurse with this mindset.

I didn't get that impression.

Some people have weak stomachs.

Having said that, "who enjoys the smell of feces?"

Nobody I know of.

Hang in there, OP. I'm with you. We shall overcome.

:o i have worked in several aspects of nursing and no matter what you do, nursing is not an "easy" job! have you considered maybe you are in the wrong profession?

Not enough information to judge, but I think that this person has an interest in being an active nurse...he/she stated that they didn't mind ER/office/prison. Can also be that this may be an inquiry for a second job. The way that I run around at my clinic all day long, I'd certainly want something less demanding. Or, if this is a new nurse, and they can have a slower introduction to our field, that may not be a bad thing either. Let's give the OP the benefit of the doubt.

She stated that she doesn't like body waste or the smell. She's aware that long-term-care might have more of that then she can stomach, so she's asking for a different type of LPN job.

I would suggest a doctor's office, if they can use an LPN. Or, how about labor and delivery, postpartum? A school nurse would be excellent, but they need to have an RN. Ditto with health department nurses that give shots.

I work in assisted living during the week and ltc weekends. Assisted living is great and laid back and my pay is high but i work with staff who have little or no experience in healthcare. I am the only nurse in the evenings and i make all decisions. In ltc i can pick up the phone for house sup. or call another nurse for assistance. But I like them both equally.

Whatever you do, do not step into a prison if you are a woman! I worked at one for 2-weeks and I felt violated everytime I stepped into the facilty. I did not have a strong enough backbone for this area where men talk to you like you are a potential sex object. Making remarks about your looks and body is not what I went into nursing for. Prison nursing is not "easy".
