Eastern Michigan University (EMU) Fall 2014 Applicants

Published

Hello all,

Who else is applying in May for Fall 2014 admission? Let's keep each other up to date! On the new points system, if my semester finishes as planned, I will have 465/500 points. Good luck to everyone!

It's listed as a maximum of 58 bc if you take the regular a&p you get 8 quality points for each class ( 2 pts for each of the 4 credit hours).. The spmd a&p option is only 6 quality points each. You can get an extra point for taking a lab that goes with psych 101, but it's not required for admission.

That is correct. ^ I spoke to some guy in the nursing department when I was trying to figure out why I wasn't getting the full 58 points. I took the regular A&P I & II at EMU. However, I DID take Psy 101 along with the lab, both at EMU, so maybe I will get an extra 2 points then? I know they will tabulate the points themselves to check for errors, so we'll see, but when I submitted my application, it said 56 points. I bet its because there was no spot to put the lab. I took the lecture portion (3.0 credit hours in the Fall semester) took the lab portion (1.0 credit hours) in the Winter semester. That lab & lecture does not require you to take both at the same time. So who knows? We'll see, I suppose. :)

Sarah up thread said she would call and clarify tomorrow about the 112 Traditional only vs 112 accepted total. I think that the secretary misunderstood her and there are still only 80 traditional spots, but I hope this isn't correct for everyone's sake! I bet there were a few more people turning their applications in at the last minute, but I can't imagine it was more than 20 at the most.

I would be willing to bet money that that person misunderstood me. I'll call tomorrow & update you on what I find out. :)

I recieved 447.88/500 of the points. I thought that was pretty high. Man, now I'm super nervous.

Let us know! I hope that it is increased so that the transfer people who would otherwise be excluded get to prove themselves! I get why EMU does this, but they shouldn't be so exclusionary. Just going to EMU doesn't automatically make you a better student.

Straight A's also might not make one a better nurse too, Just sayin!

Yeah, you can get up to 58 points. I took all mine at EMU, but got 56 points. :)

It was actualy 56 points maximum, the 58 thing on the online application was an error.

Sorry for the delay all! Busy day at work, immediately had to come home & head up north for our Girl Scout Camping Trip, so I just got 8 10 & 11 year old girls to bed & jumped online. Anywho, she was still confused. She had to put me on hold to clarify & it is the 80 traditional & 32 2nd degree spots available, making it 112 spots total. She said for all 112 spots, they received between 200-300 applications & are still going through the mail retrieving applications that are postmarked the 15th & prior. She said everyone should have a decision by June 20th or so. We'll see! Good luck to everyone! :)

Hey everyone!

I hope all of your hard work pays off, including my own! I am so nervous, I am already dying for that letter to be in my mailbox and we have over a month left! I applyed with 470.25 points I really hope it is enough to get in, I turned in my application on May 12th and the lady told me they have many more applicants this year, so after reading the post that said there were only 200 this year I am so confused! Please if anyone hears what the cut off is please post it here and if I find out I will make sure to inform everyone! Good luck to all of you!! :)

It all depends upon who applied. They take the highest point total and then go on down to find the top 80 totals. Thinking about it now, *I'm* nervous too, even though an advisor told me I was "very competitive." This is going to be such a long wait!

Im just glad I have a back-up plan in case I don't get in...its just not my first choice. Fingers crossed for everyone! :)

I also applied for Fall 2014. I've been told two different things about my work healthcare experience, as to whether the program would accept it or not for points. I was a police officer, however we are first aid certified and run medical calls. One advisor told me that they would accept that as healthcare experience and another said they didn't think they would. If they do accept that as work experience I will have 482.75/500 and if they don't I will have 467.75/500. Either way I'm still nervous. Let's hope they get back to all of us as soon as possible :)

I don't think they will, they emphasized that it needed to be "experience in a healthcare setting" and that wasn't really your primary duty. You don't have anything to worry about either way, though!

I've been thinking, and let's suppose they have 4 people assessing applicants. If they are each able to do one app per hour (could be less, could be more, depending upon if they call to verify work experience), and they devote half of their 8 hour day working on apps, and they work 5 days a week, it will still take them 3.75 weeks to go through all of our applications. So I suppose my conclusion is: I need to stop checking my mailbox obsessively!
