Eastern Michigan University (EMU) Fall 2014 Applicants

Published

Hello all,

Who else is applying in May for Fall 2014 admission? Let's keep each other up to date! On the new points system, if my semester finishes as planned, I will have 465/500 points. Good luck to everyone!

Let us know! I hope that it is increased so that the transfer people who would otherwise be excluded get to prove themselves! I get why EMU does this, but they shouldn't be so exclusionary. Just going to EMU doesn't automatically make you a better student.

It's not really about being a "better student" all other schools do the same in showing favor towards their own students in some way.

She told me that taking all of your pre-reqs at EMU DOES give you a leg up on transfer students, but not much. :)

Yea it's still like a 50 something pt diff in score, depending on how many you didn't take at emu.

Yeah, you can get up to 58 points. I took all mine at EMU, but got 56 points. :)

I didn't take that psych lab or the regular a&p.. so I know what you mean!

The counselor told me that it's only out of 56 not 58. She says she isn't sure where the extra two are from. I took all but one class at EMU and got 50.

It's listed as a maximum of 58 bc if you take the regular a&p you get 8 quality points for each class ( 2 pts for each of the 4 credit hours).. The spmd a&p option is only 6 quality points each. You can get an extra point for taking a lab that goes with psych 101, but it's not required for admission.

I took A&P I and II at EMU and am still at 50. I did not take Psych 101 there, which is worth 3 credit hours, but I am still at 50. So by your logic, it would still only be 57 points available, since you only get one point for the Psych 101 lab. Unless, of course, you get two points for the lab, as it is one credit hour extra. Regardless, she told me that no one really takes the lab, and thus they score it out of 56.

So without the psych class @ emu you lost 6 pts... If hypothetically you were to have actually taken the lab you would get 2 quality points ( 2 pts for the 1 credit hour). Thus giving you a total of 58.

But I digress...

Which is exactly what I worked out. And since so few people take the Psych 101 lab, de facto we are all looking at 56 as the top number. I don't think those two points are going to make or break anyone, given that apparently they got so few applicants that almost 50% of the people who applied will get in.

Do you think that the 200 they had around noon yesterday increased much afterwards? I'm probably over thinking this?

I don't think more than 100 people turned in the application after noon today. Somebody call tomorrow and let us know! They're probably sick of hearing me call up there by now

Sarah up thread said she would call and clarify tomorrow about the 112 Traditional only vs 112 accepted total. I think that the secretary misunderstood her and there are still only 80 traditional spots, but I hope this isn't correct for everyone's sake! I bet there were a few more people turning their applications in at the last minute, but I can't imagine it was more than 20 at the most.
