Eastern Michigan University (EMU) Fall 2014 Applicants

U.S.A. Michigan

Hello all,

Who else is applying in May for Fall 2014 admission? Let's keep each other up to date! On the new points system, if my semester finishes as planned, I will have 465/500 points. Good luck to everyone!

433 points here. I'm a 4.0 transfer student who has all the points for the TEAS. I also took NURS 110 and have no health care experience. I'm surprised by the many high point totals! Super nervous now. :(

Seeing these high point totals makes me nervous too, if I don't get in, I can't say that I wouldn't be surprised....

I called the nursing school today & the woman there said, that so far, there are about 200 people who applied, (as of 12:30 PM today) & that there are actually 112 spots available in the program, not 80 spots like in previous years! Best news Ive gotten all day!

Wow that's great news! Looks like we all have a good shot!

I thought there were only 80 traditional and 40 second degree spots. I'm kind of not thrilled with this news, if there's not that many applicants as compared to seats then their attrition rate is going to skyrocket. I've heard that there were 300+ applicants in years past. On the other hand, this could mean less competition for jobs later. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

That's awesome, puts me at ease a little!

I thought the same thing & she said along with the change in the way they tabulate points, the amount of seats that are available has changed too. I was actually quite shocked. I thought that there were only 80 traditional BSN seats & 32 2nd degree RN-BSN seats. Maybe that's what she meant by 112 seats? That would make more sense, but she said 112 traditional seats. Im gonna call again tomorrow to inquire again & see if I talk to someone different. Maybe this person wasn't informed correctly?

Let us know! I hope that it is increased so that the transfer people who would otherwise be excluded get to prove themselves! I get why EMU does this, but they shouldn't be so exclusionary. Just going to EMU doesn't automatically make you a better student.

This makes me feel a little better! Just so you know, there are 80 spots available for the traditional program and 32 for the accelerated. Thanks for the update! :) I've been in the nursing office like 5 times bugging that poor woman lol!

Amen to this! I have a 4.0 and I'm sorry, but it's totally unfair for someone who has a 3.7-3.8 but took all of their prereqs at EMU to take precedence over me. I worked SO hard for my grades! :( I started college when I was barely 17 and I couldn't even drive at that time, so I actually had to start off at a local CC (I live downriver) - my parents were driving me! Not to mention the huge money-saving aspect of CC. I'm just praying it all works out and my dream comes true!

Im still calling again tomorrow to inquire and get more clarification. I'll let you guys know.

She told me that taking all of your pre-reqs at EMU DOES give you a leg up on transfer students, but not much. :)
