Eastern Michigan University (EMU) Fall 2014 Applicants

U.S.A. Michigan

Hello all,

Who else is applying in May for Fall 2014 admission? Let's keep each other up to date! On the new points system, if my semester finishes as planned, I will have 465/500 points. Good luck to everyone!

oh man that almost makes it worse :( at least your on the alternate list!! you never know i guarantee people drop out. I still have yet to receive my letter. that doesn't seem like a good sign at all!

Aww I'm sorry. :( Nursing programs are just ridiculously competitive these days. All they look at are points and where you fall on the (long) list. I wish the admission process was more like medical school: where you actually have an interview so they can put a face with your name. Medical schools also consider recommendations, revalent work experience, charity work, highest GPA and test scores, etc. Nursing school? All points - whoever has the most. It's annoying. There are many good candidates that just get passed by because of these point systems.

Has anyone completed their background check yet? I remember someone on here saying that your registration status changes after your background check is complete. Mine came back already and my registration status is the same. I didn't know if that was because I'm an alternate or not?

Also, did the acceptance letters have the orientation date on them? I read from previous years that the alternates should go to the orientation but my letter didn't have a date on it. Thanks guys. :)

I haven't completed mine yet cause I'm away on orders.. but my registration status already changed but that's so I can register for classes. You should ask someone at the S.O.N if you should attend orientation because they put the date in ours.

That's good to know that it changed. I should check mine periodically then. Did you have to call the S.O.N. to "confirm" your acceptance before it changed or did it just change on it's own?

No I didn't call them to confirm, I spoke to ---------------- and she brought up the fact that it should have changed. It only changes so you can register and pick a schedule I'm not sure it'll do that for you given your situation.. that's why I said maybe you should call and ask them.

Ok. I just spoke to -------------- and she said she'd call me as soon as possible if my number came up. Logically, I'd think my status would change? I forgot to ask her that. She told me if I wanted to go to orientation, I could. She said it was August 28th. She wasn't sure about the time though. Did your letter say the time?

Try not to be discouraged. I wasted my time and took a few classes at EMU and applied to their accelerated BSN program with a high point value and did not get in. Afterwards, I applied to UDM, began shortly after, and a year later had my BSN with a 3.81 GPA. Being denied acceptance from a university that utilizes these terrible point systems in no way indicates your academic capabilities and potential as a future nurse. Stick with it!
