Duquesne University ABSN 2022

Published

Hi all!

I know it's still early for this program (deadline in May), but I was recently accepted and wanted to start a discussion forum! I really wanted to be in Pittsburgh and like Duquesne's program, which is why I applied.

Accepted/prospective students please feel free to respond, as well as current students - I'd love to hear what you think about the program!

oh my gosh I completely agree! it’s so much! I don't even know where to start. I was even having issues putting in the code to purchase the clearances.

Also, I was trying to find the facebook group for our incoming class but couldn't find it. Can anyone link it here for me?

If you guys need an inexpensive stethoscope, Litmann has the lightweight stethoscopes for $60. My friend is an RN and he told me to not invest in a more expensive Litmann until we begin working.

The program was manageable but it was very hard! I put 100% energy and time into it for 12 months straight (minus XMAS break). Mon-Fri was spent in classes/clinicals and Sat/Sun was spent studying all day. But because you are so busy it goes very fast. Do not go into it thinking you can slack at all; 20 people failed our first semester, and 25 who were in the 12 month dropped down to 16 month because the pace was too fast. I do not say any of this to discourage you but just be mentally prepared! If you study, are dedicated, and prioritize this program you will do fine! I finished with a strong GPA and passed the NCLEX in 75 questions (as did my friends in the program) but Duquesne does exactly what’s it supposed to do; get you to pass the NCLEX! There are HESI exits test following each clincial course and they are difficult but manageable. The final comprehensive HESI covers everything from the whole program and it was very hard. Only 10 people passed the first round (you get 3 chances to take it). Best piece of advice I could give someone going into the program is if you have an extra 300 dollars to purchase UWorld year subscription right before you start the first semester and complete all the practice questions throughout the year corresponding with each related course, if you do this you’ll be prepared for the exit HESI and subsequently the NCLEX.

If anyone has any specific questions feel free to ask!

what about those doing the 16 month track off the start? wouldn't buying UWorld right away be a mistake and cause it to expire early? what is the NCLEX like? I'm originally pre-med but switched to nursing to become a nurse practitioner. Can you explain what these HESI are?

After you get accepted, you would usually receive an email inviting you to the FB page where you'll meet other people who've been accepted to Duquesne's Second Degree program.

Tbh, I have been swamped trying to get the stupid pre-clinical stuff done. I got my drug test, background check, fingerprints, etc done except the CPR class and I am waiting to finish my immunization crap because I had to get a Hep B booster on April 20th. ??? So much stuff.

I haven't even started this stuff yet (moving to PGH in 2 weeks!) so you're far ahead of me!

I'm moving my stuff to PGH in 2 weeks but not staying there all Summer. I already got a place 12 minute walk from campus. I gotta take the bus to clinical sites ?
