Duquesne University ABSN 2022

Published

Hi all!

I know it's still early for this program (deadline in May), but I was recently accepted and wanted to start a discussion forum! I really wanted to be in Pittsburgh and like Duquesne's program, which is why I applied.

Accepted/prospective students please feel free to respond, as well as current students - I'd love to hear what you think about the program!

So when are you guys gonna start moving to Pittsburgh (if you already haven't yet LOL)? I'll be heading over there in the second week of August!

I'll be back in town on August 12th. I gotta really organize my places because I unpacked everything and left it on the floor. I really didn't care ? I hate the time it takes to organize stuff.

coming back to see everything having to be organized? I wish you the best

yeah I didn't have the patience to organize it all within a week of moving in. most stuff is organized like my kitchen, bedroom, linen closet, bathroom. just the living room stuff is everywhere ?

I chose the 12 month! Classes are definitely material heavy so of course you need to study. But it is definitely manageable, I studied during the week and had most of my weekends completely free. I actually felt like I had more free time than I needed so I decided to get a casual PCT job this semester. Spring semester is your busiest semester in the 12 month program but I still feel like I have a good balance of school, studying, free time, and I work one 8 hour shift a week. Apartments around Duquesne are pricey, most are around 1000-1300. But a lot of people I know live in South Side and rent there is cheaper from what I’ve heard!

Hi,

If you don't mind me asking, how does the casual PCT position work? Like what is their pay and is the fact that you are a nursing student give you any pay advantage over someone who is not? So you are required to work 16 hours every two weeks, would any hours over 20 be paid as overtime for a two week pay period?

Thank you.

Hello!

I came across this post and noticed there are a lot of you from California! I am interested in applying to Duquesne ABSN for Fall 2023 and I plan on practicing nursing in California upon graduation. Do you guys know if this program meets the requirement for California Board Licensure?

All you need to do is take the NCLEX. The school sends your stuff to the Board of Nursing. They don't tell us the specifics of how they send it off to whatever state but they said to take the NCLEX in the state you want to practice in. A lot of people are out of state in this program so you won't have any issues.

Sorry they didn't reply to you. Did you eventually get your answer since school started?

How are you progressing in the 12 month program? Can you please  give an update whenever you get a moment?
