Duke Nurse Residency 2016! (feb 28th apps)

Published

Hey all!!!

Just want to make a forum for the Duke Nurse Residency Program. Applications are open now, and will close Feb 28th 2016.

Good luck to all! And keep us posted here!!

I sent in my app, and it has changed to "forwarded to hiring manager". Has anyone else had that change?

Thanks Alexandra!

the surgical icu manager interview was a little more pressure then the cardiac icu. Some tougher questions but all in all not too bad. The cardiac icu was super chill and everyone was great.

Hi everyone! I know this is a little late, but I am just wondering what all your credentials were before getting interviewed? Once there is only the option to really show yourself through you resume during the initial application.

KKnursing,

Hello! I'm a dec 2015 BSN graduate. I was unlicensed when I sent my app, but licensed now. I don't have a 4.0 gpa, but cum laude. I was a nurse intern in cardiac cath lab for 8 months and precepted in the ICU (cardiac & neuro). I have cardiac exposure, so I really tried to sell it in my cover letter because i wanted CTICU. Previous to nursing school I was a cytology lab rat.

I do think that they don't look at GPA (another allnurses thread said that). The manager said some RN residents in the CTICU have never been in the ICU before, so I assume experience varies.

I hope this helps! Good luck!

Hey everyone! I'm from out of state also (Arkansas) and got an email for an interview for the Pediatric Cardiac ICU! I'm definitely extremely excited and nervous!

I have background in the USAF as a medic, did an externship at the VA in the PACU and SICU and have worked as an LPN at the Heart Hospital here and at our children's hospital. I carry about 7 years of medical experience and knew the ICU would be the challenge that I was looking for!

So glad to see there are more out of state people applying for the residency!

Hi futureRN17!

Welcome to the group! When is your interview for PCICU? That's going to be fascinating by the way! I'm interviewing on Feb 26th with the Adult Medical/Step-down unit (4300).

Congrats on the interview!

Just a little worried because it's been a little while (about a week and a half) since I applied. There's somewhere out there for everyone, so 'm keeping my chin up!

Future_RN17 nice to meet ya! Cool background btw, and big congrats on the PCICU interview! Peds make me shake in my boots lol, so kudos to you! I just got hired in CTICU. I'll be coming from bay area!

Picu really is awesome congrats on the interview!

@aluv4health: They asked me for several dates to come shadow/interview so I planned on doing a weekend trip. Flights are pretty expensive so I was planning on driving [emoji31] but it'll be worth it I'm sure!

Since a lot of us are relocating, have any of you looked into the Duke Relocation grant or apartments in the area? So much to prepare for if I get hired there!

Hey just got my relocation stuff. they give you $3000 flat or you can use their listed movers & they will pay them directly.

APT area's:

Durham super diverse and urban very hipster metropolitan area. seems like oakland, where there are upscale and lowscale areas.

Cary is very nice - where all the MDs, RNs and researchers live. It's very close to durham - 15-30 mins. Apex is basically Cary.

Raleigh is very huge. mixed areas of country-like (outskirts) and metropolitan/urban by the downtown area. it's like 1 hour to 30-40 mins depending on where u are.

Just found out I got sticu too. Gotta make a decision by the 15th. Time to find a place to live!!! Can't wait to meet you guys

josh

who did you guys address your cover letters to?
