Duke Fall MSN 2020

Published

Starting a thread for all those who have applied to the Fall 2020 Term at Duke. I have applied to the Pediatric Primary NP program.

Fair enough! Nataline50, what would you advice for the interview process? any tips of what they are looking for? their criteria for a good impression?

As far as interviews go, it is true as someone posted before that you are interviewed by a faculty member that may or may not be from the specialty you applied to. They ask you a series of questions that everyone gets asked. I do not remember them specifically, but they are your typical interview questions like "tell me about a time..." where you have to recall experiences and what the outcome was. And there are specific questions asking about how you deal with school, like situational type questions and how you would navigate certain issues. Not sure if my explanations are particularly helpful, but happy to share what I know.

@myischmo I’m confused, so everyone who applied got that email? I was also sent an email to create an account for Duke’s OneLink which allows me to follow the interview/application process. (At least that’s what the email said.) Not so sure why they wouldn’t just send out a “sorry you didn’t get picked” email. Thanks for all the information ?

@NCKate Hi! I’m not saying it’s a definite that everyone received it, but that’s how it appears. I know many applicants in real life that also received the same emails but no interview. We also received the account set up email as well. There are a lot of applicants for FNP, so perhaps the pool was narrowed down to a large sum and then narrowed down again. Not sure why they would send out the email either other than to maybe give an update to reduce calls and emails. Easiest thing would be to send all. It’s quite frustrating because it does get your hopes up, but the group I speak with all noticed it was very vague. We were all under consideration for a potential interview. ??‍♀️

I wish they would have just sent out a rejection. I made the dumb decision to hold off on applying to other schools when I received those emails. I didn’t want to wear out my recommender’s. Now I’m regretting it and the deadlines are too close to ask now. ??‍♀️

Any FNP candidates receive an invite?

Yes!

I too received the hopeful email that I was being considered for an interview but just now received my denial of admission email. Best of luck to everyone who received an interview!

@Nurse Felly Was it for the FNP program? Did they tell you how many people applied or what made them not pick you? When I was applying to new grad programs in LA I called HR when I wasn't picked, and the woman told me 2500+ people applied and only 30 got picked.?

Hi! Any AGPC applicants out there??

Yes, FNP! And no, no details at all. It only said they reviewed my application in comparison to others and were unable to offer me admission at this time. ☹️

Right here!

anyone know anyone who made it to the interview but didn't get accepted?

So as I get closer to my interview date, I'm starting to question if the cost of attending Duke is really worth the debt I'm going to incur. I'm not sure if my mind is just trying to prepare itself for a possible rejection or if this question is truly an issue. I applied to Duke back in November trying to make the December 1st deadline knowing that Duke has an amazing nursing program. A part of me didn't think I would make it this far. I'm excited, nervous, scared....

Any thoughts?

i get what youre feeling. I honestly never expected to even get an interview and now that i have i'm more nervous about getting accepted than being rejected. pretty backwards logic.
