I kind of tried to search this but couldn't find exactly what I was looking for, (sorry if this is a repeat thread)
I applied to the Duke ABSN program, and I've got an interview comming up. Anyone have any advice? Anyone gone through the whole process of applying, or the program? I really love what I've seen of Duke so far - and want to go there!
I haven't been able to find any statistics either (average grades, how many apply, get interviews, get accepted).
Anyone know anything?
THANKS!
OBXLOVR - Did you say that Melissa said most people who were accepted should accept or decline by the end of the week of the 20th?
I found out was about 25th on this wait list. I must have called as there were still finalizing the list.
And, did someone else say they weren't getting as many declines as Melissa expected?
Just trying to get some clarity from all the posts
ThanksQ
Spygirl - Melissa told me on March 6th that they should have most of the responses in from everyone in the next 2 weeks, which would be around the 20th or 21st. She didn't give me a specific date they were required to have their decisions in though.
Thanks carolinapooh! How is your new job going? I hope you are loving it!

She didn't say not as many as she expected... just "not as many declines this year."
OBXLovr - thanks for asking! I love my job, love the staff; my managers are excellent (9100 and 9300 are sort of "jointly managed"). My preceptor has said I'm doing outstanding so far. This week I'm in my oncology core classes and am enjoying that as well. Tomorrow we start review and study for the chemotherapy certification test.
I made a great choice with this particular unit, which is so far from anything I ever saw myself doing. The patients are really special and I've already found myself learning from them as well.
YAY! for loving your job! :-)
I called Melissa today, I'm ranked 10th.
I believe she said they are 70 people on the waiting list. Does that seem like alot to anyone else? (Dont want to start rumors - I could have mis heard that)
She said a majority of people accepted should respond within the next week or two, However, they just sent a nother batch of acceptance letters out, sooooo It could be a while.
In addition she said the classes arent finalized till end of may / beggining of June. And people can drop out of the program, or off the wait list at any time up until that point (which would affect your ranking)
I'm not sure I'm fond of this waiting game.....it's like being in limbo!
So glad you are loving your job carolinapooh! :nuke:
Last week, Melissa told me there were 60 people on the waitlist...maybe they have added a few more since then? It does seem like a lot, but you never know how many people they will have to pull or how many people request to be taken off the waitlist/accept at another school.
I am confused though about how they have sent out another batch of acceptance letters after they created the waitlist? Maybe I'm missing something!
What probably happened was that they have received some denials from those students they originally offered acceptance to, so now they have just sent out another batch of acceptances to the first few on the waitlist for those spots, maybe the first 5 or something. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they'll send out some more in the next week or two!

A bunch of us here on the forum have received our rankings from Melissa, so you should definitely email/call and inquire about it!
I do know a few people though that asked on March 6 and were given an estimate of where they fall on the list but not an exact number. Apparently they are still working on completing all the rankings.
Keep us posted on what you hear! :nuke:
