Duke ABSN Fall 2015

U.S.A. North Carolina

Published

Hi All,

Just wanted to get a thread going for those who are applying to the Fall 2015 ABSN program. What are some of your degrees in? Is anyone applying to other schools? Also, is anyone planning on moving to North Carolina to attend?

charming_kitty, I've lived in the Durham area for years and I can tell you it is certainly a diverse area so please don't let the horrific event at UNC influence your decision. The event at UNC was terrible as I'm sure we can all agree but as FJD13 said, that sort of thing does not happen everyday and unfortunately it can happen anywhere. Duke is an excellent school and has a wonderful reputation and great connections around the Triangle (Raleigh, Durham, CH). Just my two cents.

charming_kitty, I grew up in Baltimore and my family still lives there. It is like EVERY CITY IN AMERICA there are bad parts and there are good parts. Hopkins is a great school and in a good area of Baltimore. Charles Village is the neighborhood nearby and it is very nice/affordable with roommates. (My parents actually have an apartment building that they rent to Hopkins students, including a girl who is currently in the nursing program.) Do not let you parents thinking that Baltimore is unsafe sway your decision. Not all of Baltimore is like the HBO show "The Wire", I promise! I did not apply to Hopkins because I want to stay in NC, but if I did want to move back home, it would be a top choice for me. Hope this helps!

Can anyone who has lived in the Raleigh/Durham area give me a sanity check on the feasibility of commuting from Morrisville to Duke. Specifically, I've researched that it is roughly 15 miles away depending on where in Morrisville you live. Some folks have told me that the commute during rush hour can be from 30-45 minutes on average. Does this sound accurate? Thanks!

Fjd13,

i've lived in Cary which is right next to Morrisville for 11 years now. It takes me 35 minutes with non-rush-hour traffic to get to Duke. I go up Davis dr to 40 to 147. Where would you be in morrisville? I live in North Cary which puts me a little closer to the freeway. But if I was in South Cary I'd be another 10 minutes away. Morrisville is almost the same distance as cary. More NE morrisville would give you Easy access to 147 and 540 (part toll) or 55, would be a good thing. Once you are on the freeways it's quick and easy. 147 does get very congested in Rush hour though. Let me know if you have any more questions about the area.

check your emails! financial award decisions are out.

Stressing about the financial aspect of this program... anyone else in the same boat? I'm not sure if I should decline and reapply to a cheaper program.

same for me. i just received an offer from a state school and it'll cost me less than 20,000 for the entire program. still waiting on Hopkins offer as well.

Does anyone know when second round acceptances go out for those on the wait list ?!

Should be the first or second week of April. Deposits for first rounders are due by 3 April.

Thank you!! Does anyone know how many acceptances were sent out in the first round?

where does it say april 3?

I wonder if they send out more acceptance letters than they have seats for....
