Hi all!
Just wanted to start a thread for the people applying to duke for the fall of 2012. I am super excited/nervous to be filling out the application! I know that there are others out there feeling the same way. If anybody is willing to comment I would love to hear from some people who have applied, accepted or denied, or applying right now, or even going to apply in the future. :)
Congrats poodle!
@laflaca: I believe that we just wait to see how many people accept or decline. Then the University sends out emails for those spots and a waitlist ranking of the rest of the second rounders. That is my understanding of the process. I assume that they just look over the applications again to see who they want to admit second round but I am not sure.
On my 2nd round letter they said they will let us know by April 9th, or hopefully a bit before, for the next decision. Did any other 2nd rounders get that date as well?
Reading this board is making me feel so much better about 2nd round. At first I was really bummed but now I'm realizing they could have said no. Again, congrats to everyone that got in, must be such a relief! Now for us 2nd rounders...what to do for the next month and a half?!
Sit tight!
Is Duke the only school you had applied to? I hope you're waiting for other decisions. :)
For both of my private-school options (Duke and Yale), based on the comments of the student panels and on info from previous years' threads, I expect that financial aid will basically consist of a whoooooole lotta loans and maybe a couple-few thousand in grants if I'm lucky. So a really MIRACULOUS offer (like a completely free ride!
She said during Duke Days that we would have a couple weeks to review financial aid stuff before our acceptance decisions were due....I assume that means financial aid offers are sent mid-March.
I'm still waiting back on 5 schools so I am trying not to be too disappointed. I found out about Duke's decision while I was in A&P class. I guess its good for second rounders if people got denied admission but this waiting is absolute torture. I am hoping to hear back from other schools soon. I wonder if re-taking the GRE or something will improve chances? Or do they already have all the info they want/need?
I also applied to George Washington's BSN program which starts in the fall, should be hearing back from them in March. I wanted to apply to UNC however they wouldn't accept one of my prereqs and I didn't have the time or money to re-take it.
From what it seems like everyone that was placed into the 2nd round meets the criteria they are looking for, they just don't have enough seats for all of us. I don't know if I read it on here or from previous years but I believe the 2nd round pool is ranked, we just won't find out those rankings until it gets to a waitlist. Mellzie you do bring up a good point though, I wonder if there is anything you can do to improve your position within the 2nd round?
