Hi all!
Just wanted to start a thread for the people applying to duke for the fall of 2012. I am super excited/nervous to be filling out the application! I know that there are others out there feeling the same way. If anybody is willing to comment I would love to hear from some people who have applied, accepted or denied, or applying right now, or even going to apply in the future. :)
I think you can email M to update your app b/c I did that awhile ago when I got my current job. NC resident here, just applied to Duke and UNC, didn't have to take the GRE. Don't think I have anything I could "fix," per se. I'm going to be lighting a lot of candles in the coming weeks...
I wonder if re-taking the GRE or something will improve chances? Or do they already have all the info they want/need?
If you scored above 1000 on the GREs, I don't think it will make much of a difference by re-taking. After speaking with current students who went through the process last year, it appears your grades, recommendations, interviews and essays are the most heavily weighted, not GREs. Unfortunately, there isn't much you can do but wait it out..

Awww, moggs...
Just don't make a rash decision and attend another school if Duke is your dream. Worst case scenario is you can ask for your application to be bumped for consideration to the Spring 2013 cohort and re-interview. Keep your head up!
mfg83....Yale hasn't even made offers yet (decisions are March 1st). They are both fantastic programs, no doubt. Initially Yale was my first choice, because I'm so anxious to finish the master's and get the FNP quickly, and their program is direct-entry to graduate status...plus for goodness' sake, it's Yale! But after talking to people and seeing the programs, I was swayed by Duke's higher number of clinical hours, the option to either go straight through to MSN OR work with a BSN first OR work and do the MSN part-time. Also liked Duke's facilities, the possibility of the tuition payback program through the hospital, the connection I felt with other students and the faculty, and quality of life issues (at 41 I care more about where I live than I did at 25....gotta consider my husband's feelings too...we both liked Durham's vibe much more than New Haven).
So, I'm about 95% sure it'll be Duke, but I'm trying to be a responsible grown-up and wait for all data (including financial aid) before committing to a decision :)
In my acceptance letter, I was told that I had to send in my deposit fee by April 2 (hopefully that will help everyone with a time line!). The only other school I applied to was Simmons College in Boston, MA. Both programs are about the same in price, but it's MUCH cheaper to live in Durham, NC than Boston, MA.. plus the Duke reputation is much better as well. I'm 95% I will be attending Duke but it really all depends on financial aid and if I can get the proper loans.
I really hope everyone that got moved to the second round has not given up hope!!! For the past week I've been stalking the Duke ABSN threads from the past few years, and it seems like the majority of the people that were moved to the second round or wait-listed were eventually offered admission. A couple of the threads from the past even indicated that Duke was able to exhaust their wait list (meaning everyone on the wait list was eventually offered admission). I'm crossing my fingers for everyone!!
So I am guessing that they will see how many 1st rounders deny and then offer that many spots to some 2nd rounders. Then rank the rest? Not sure though. Thanks for the reassurance rosie! That is really good news for us. I wonder how many people got rejection emails? That would be nice to know so we know how many people are left to be considered.

Yes, this is what I also gathered from the previous cycles. A new batch of acceptances will be going out to second rounders by early April, followed by the ranked waitlist. From previous posts, it appears, waitlisters got bumped up rather quickly.

I'm not sure if you can add anything to your application or not? That would be a good question to email M about.
