Duke ABSN Fall 2011

Hi all!

I know its early and the application isn't due until December 1st, but I was wondering if there was anyone else out there applying to the Duke ABSN program to start in August of 2011! I've already read through some of the previous semesters' threads and it seems like a great outlet for discussion/ questions/ nerves!

Hey everyone! Just wondering if there are any more fellow waitlisters out there. I spoke with "her" recently and she said that there would potentially be more offers after May 12th. I'm thinking we should hear something around Monday.

Hey guys! How is everyone on the waitlist doing out there? I am currently 6th and "she" told me that there are only 16 on the list as a whole now since so many decided to drop. Duke is the school I have been dreaming of going to for so long!!!! The waiting is killing me! Has anyone heard any news or when the next big update will come?

i am still on the waitlist and pretty much at the bottom of the barrel at number 12 (last time i talked to her at least). she seemed pretty optimistic though that the waitlist would be exhausted this year. i started out at number 34 so moving all the way to 12 is super exciting, and 6 must be even more exciting! i don’t know when we will get another update, but ill probably try to contact her halfway through the month if i haven’t heard anything yet. come july ill transfer my application over for spring if i haven’t gotten pulled by then. keep me updated if you hear anything. i have a good feeling you will get in! best of luck!

Hey guys! I hope everyone received the email she sent out earlier today. I'm so tired of waiting... everyday is more and more stressful! I'm just glad she gave us the final waitlist timeframe. I hope we'll hear something closer to late June over early July. I'm so proud of everyone for holding out this long. Duke is also my dream school and I feel pretty optimistic about getting in for fall. Good luck to all fellow waitlisters! Stay vigilant :)

Hello Guys and Gals! I've been a lurker on the boards for a while and wanted to post because I too am still a waitlister for the Fall start date. Last time I emailed regarding status I was number 7 or 8. Anyway, I hope everyone is still holding out as I know it's a very very very long process for us all. Let's hope they are pretty accurate with early July notification and that they exhaust the waitlist (crossing fingers). Anyone else who's still waiting have to move across the country? I will be coming from California and hope I hear soon so I can get a move on headed east...lol...good luck to everyone still waiting...and waiting...and waiting...;)

To all waitlist candidates:

You are all amazing, and I'm sending the most positive thoughts your way. I am not a member of the cohort, just the mom of a cohort member. When we were sweating it out, it really helped me to learn from you posts that those who applied to the program have integrity, kindness, stick-to-itive-ness, grace, and class. The entire waitlist crew deserves to be taken into the cohort; you have show incredible determination. Let me wish you all the best.

Well... it's July now. I've been hoping there would be more posts to keep me distracted during the insanely long wait but I guess everyone was busy having an awesome summer :DI have the anxious feeling that us fellow waitlisters will be receiving some kind of news sometime this week. I'm really REALLY excited to find out. Anyone else feeling the same?

I have a feeling we will hear something this week as well. But I'm not sure that it is going to be what I am looking for (aka an acceptance...lol). I think this week we might hear about interviews for the spring if our applications are in both pools. I spoke with you know who last week and at that time they had not dropped below capacity and they were very very unsure if they would be taking anyone off the waitlist at this point. I guess we could be waiting till late July/ early August before we hear a definitive answer. I am still hoping for the best but kind of expecting the worst at this point...;-(...but I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for us all!!

Thanks for your update. I was curious to see if anything had changed since you spoke with "her" and unfortunately, the situation still stands. She confirmed that they are still at capacity and do not have permission to return to the waitlist until they go under. She said that they will be sending a survey out to the accepted candidates who have not confirmed as of yet asking whether their fin aid is in order and whether they believe that they will be attending Duke. Once they get the survey back she said that they'll have a better idea of whether they are going to see any more drop off. She said that they hope to be sending us notification in the coming "week" about the situation, not necessarily to take people on the waitlist. Bottom line, we will have some kind of correspondence. In the meantime, she said that all who were interested in the Spring cohort will receive interview invitations when the rest of the applicant pool does. She said that this time around, they will have a group interview that takes the place of one faculty interview. She did say that doing another interview is completely optional and that either way we could just be considered again. She said the applicant pool is much smaller for the spring.

I feel incredibly pessimistic at this point about the fall unless the survey reveals a significant amount of people do not plan on attending. She did say they are incredibly busy at this time handling spring cohort applications as well as trying to complete the fall cohort. She said we may even receive the interview email for spring before hearing back for fall, but they will pull until August 1st so all hope may not be lost.

I really hope to hear some good news despite all of this and to the rest of the waitlisters; stay strong.

Thanks for the update FSU. It look like you got the same news from "her" as I did. At this point the spring admission is becoming more realistic for me in moving across the country and getting the proper financial aid in order but I'm still holding out for the fall. I'm glad that the spring class is a little lower and hopefully if we aren't pulled they kinda take that into consideration for the spring and it gives us a little leg up (so to say). I do know that "she" told me that if we are pulled off the waitlist and can't get financial aid in time for the start a few weeks later we cannot defer for the spring. Each cycle has separate consideration of all applicants. So I would definitely get all loan/ financial stuff ready to submit (if people haven't done so) as I am doing the same just in case...:-)
