Duke ABSN Fall 2011

Hi all!

I know its early and the application isn't due until December 1st, but I was wondering if there was anyone else out there applying to the Duke ABSN program to start in August of 2011! I've already read through some of the previous semesters' threads and it seems like a great outlet for discussion/ questions/ nerves!

I guess I am! (haha). I put in my deposit and have been waiting on edge to hear from Duke. Waitlisted--so looks like Emory. I also got into Vanderbilt and have until Friday to tell them an answer. I am so lost as to what to do right now!!! (I would love any advice folks!)

Hi! She told me that she cannot tell us the number of second rounders that were sent acceptances. I am currently number 13 on the waiting list. The only advice I can give you is to do what you think is best. You already have acceptances. If you wait, you may miss out on a sure acceptance. Whatever you decide to do I wish you good luck.

Hi there! I find myself in the same predicament as you. I got accepted to UNC but I really fell in love with Duke when I visited. If I got into Duke I would start sooner since UNC only has the program in the spring (budget cuts) which is always good. I have a work situation going on and if I went to Duke it would solve any uncertainty regarding all of that. However I am willing to complicate my life for four months to go to UNC. UNC was my third choice but I was waited listed at UCLA and now Duke. This is what I think: UNC accepted me, they said to me "we think you are great and you are a great fit for us" They said this to me without meeting me and without any letters of recommendations, which I felt were the strongest parts of my application. Duke met me, I had a great essay and came very strongly recommended but they still aren't sure.

So I would say, if Duke is your top choice wait as long as you can, but like NCSUgirl said, don't wait so long that you no longer have choices...

I don't know if that helps you but I thought I'd throw in my two cents! Good luck with your decision, I know I'll be struggling with my decision as well, even though I'm about 90% sure I'll be going to UNC!

Ocennia - I dont have enough posts to send messages yet, but thanks so much for asking! I too was added to Duke's waitlist! I'm going to call in the morning and see what my position is, and if its down far Ill just reapply for the Spring. I was offered my old job back for the summer so hopefully they will allow me to work until the end of the year now!

Sad news from UNC too, but its completely my fault. I am still in 2 of my prereqs, and misunderstood the requirements. Right about now I really wish I would have applied to the 2 year program instead and I could have started next month. Bummer...

I'm sorry to hear about UNC. I emailed Duke about what number I am but didn't hear anything from them yet. I hope you're taken off the wait list and into the program. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

i'm more than happy to offer some advice! i feel like the programs are very different from one another (vandy and emory) so if you need help weighing pros and cons, i'd be more than happy to offer my two cents worth.

I officially withdrew my application. I'm done waiting, specially since I was accepted to a great school!

I wish you all the best. Just remember to keep trying if this does not work out. There are many programs out there and maybe next year might be your year.

I just found out that I am #1 on the waitlist! By the way, for all you waitlisters out there, "she" said that the second rounders that were offered admission yesterday have until April 21st to decide.

Thanks for the congrats to those who posted! Ocennia, congrats to you as well because although you won't be attending Duke, the school you'll be attending is just as great! Vandy, I'm gonna go ahead and say congrats to you as well. :)

Hey, just wanted to let people know that they're going through the wait list! I found out on Monday that I finally got accepted. I'm not sure what I'm going to do since I already put in my deposit at Yale... I still have about two weeks to decide and I'm completely torn. They're both awesome programs, but completely different (Yale goes straight through to the MSN). Anyone else in this situation?
