Duke ABSN Fall 2011

Hi all!

I know its early and the application isn't due until December 1st, but I was wondering if there was anyone else out there applying to the Duke ABSN program to start in August of 2011! I've already read through some of the previous semesters' threads and it seems like a great outlet for discussion/ questions/ nerves!

Hey guys. Just got off the phone with "her". She says that the second round is pretty much a waiting pool and candidates will be drawn from it as space allows once the first round has decided. She says that the 2nd round pool is ranked but she wont be able to release our rankings until around April 1st. She also says that students could potentially be pulled a little sooner but they are really set upon letting everyone know on the 5th. I f you're not admitted on the 5th, she says there will then be an additional waitlist.

I was pretty bummed finding out about 2nd round but considering that some applicants were declined today, being selected for 2nd round is really a blessing.

Congrats to those who were admitted and best of luck to all our 2nd rounders!

What does that mean? Is our admission contingent on others in the first round declining? Is this the wait list they were talking about?

Congrats ArkansasRunner! I was sent to the second round too. Even though it was not what I wanted, at least I still have a chance. Hopefully we won't have to wait too long. It is great to be able to talk to great people who are in the same position. You all are great☺

Does anyone think that maybe fewer people were actually offered acceptances than they had originally planned? Maybe they were concerned about the cohort being too large.

Yes our admission is contingent on others in the first round declining. This is the second round. That means thatthose who decline or do not accept the offer by a certain time, will have their spots given to those in the second round. Once people get pulled off the second round, there will be a waitlist.

Hi Ocennia!

There were less people sent acceptances because it was more people applying. I know that in previous years about at least 100 acceptances were sent and most of the people that were put on a waitlist were all pulled off. That has changed because of the increase in the number of applicants. This was the first year that they have done a second round.

I just wonder how many people are actually in the 2nd round list. There seems to be a LOT of us. More importantly, I really wish we could know our ranking. That along with the number of admitted people who decline will determine how quickly we get in. :confused:

I think they were sending out like 80 offers of acceptance today and are aiming for a class size of 72 from what I remember from Duke Days. Did anyone actually get rejected or did they just place everyone else in the second round? I really wish they would tell us the rankings because it would just be nice to know where we stood and if we need to look into other options, etc. I only applied to Duke because it truly is the only place I want to go so this is really hard for me. The next month and a half of waiting is going to be painful!
