Duke ABSN Fall 2014 Hopefuls

U.S.A. North Carolina

I applied to the Duke SON ABSN program for the Fall of 2014. Anyone else out there who is applying for the same cohort? I saw that last year, the applicants got their interview/Duke Days letters at the end of January... hopefully we'll hear back soon! Good luck to everyone!

I just withdrew my application, so I hope that opens up a spot to someone on the waitlist. Best of luck to everyone! :)

ahhh im guessing you got in to UPenn... CONGRATS! :) I actually received my acceptance on Wednesday too but still want to do my interview with Duke...

Another question. How were Duke Days? And I kinda want to keep some of it a mystery lol...but what advice would you give about preparing for the interview?

They will send you a schedule so you'll have an idea of what all you will be doing. To prepare for the interview I would just go back over what you wrote in your essays and look over your resume. The interview is pretty straight forward.

Overall I am so far happy with the program. The instructors have been nice and helpful as well. Great facilities and I like the way they have slowly introduced us to working with patients. Everyone in my cohort has been nice and we all seem to get along really well.

If you have an offer somewhere else, but Duke is your first choice, would it be possible to know if you've been accepted before a certain date?

Most likely no. Many people, myself included, were in your situation. I know some of us had to put money down on one program while waiting to hear. You could always call and ask if you feel comfortable. I know they had to delay releasing our decisions by a week because the admissions committee needed time to get together to review everything before making final decisions.

mewei and green - thats amazing you got accepted into upenn, congrats to you both =)

Yes, I can answer any questions you have about Duke Days. I can try answer some about the program itself but I've been a ABSN student for a month :) I do know they have mentioned they are making changes to the curriculum, so that is something you'll want to pay attention to when they speak about it.

I had another question...I am from the west coast and was wondering what the proper interview attire was for the east coast? I know it is a lot colder so wasn't sure what would be the most appropriate?

They told us to wear business casual, which 50-60% of the women wore. ~25% wore a formal suit. Most women wore stuff the kind of clothing you would see at Ann Taylor, J Crew, Limited, Banana Republic. Closed toe shoes, a mix of flats and heels. If you are going to wear a skirt or dress I would wear tights or sheer hose. Bare legs looks kind of odd for February.

The first interview day is a couple of days away...maybe I will some of you there :)

mine is a skype interview.. o.o. Wish I could go in person! Best wishes to you!

Thank you HopefulBE....but due to the weather, they had to cancel but they are giving us the option of a phone interview or in person interview on the 21st or 28th. So I will see what happens...lol. Good luck on your Skype interview! :)

Mzjazz. unfortunately the whether applies to us skype interviews as well. They sent out an email. So mine is now a phone interview! Haha. I feel bad to you in person who planned everything out!

Lol. How funny. My co-workers are all sad to see me at work today but I am like...its Mother Nature, what can I do? Lol. Well good luck on your phone interview

hahah. you too! =)

If you guys can make it to Duke Days in person, I'd definitely recommend it! It's what made me choose Duke over the other schools I got into (Hopkins, Columbia). Plus a lot of people I met at Duke Days got in and that's kind of how we knew who we wanted to become roommates with. Plus the group interview is fun and it's nice to see campus and to talk to current students!

Good luck!
