Duke ABSN Fall 2014 Hopefuls

U.S.A. North Carolina

I applied to the Duke SON ABSN program for the Fall of 2014. Anyone else out there who is applying for the same cohort? I saw that last year, the applicants got their interview/Duke Days letters at the end of January... hopefully we'll hear back soon! Good luck to everyone!

Does anyone have any idea when we should start hearing about second decision?

@futurenurse...I feel like I remember them saying that 2nd decision finds out around April 17th

Has anyone else heard anything about second decision? My friend was accepted yesterday

Hey everybody, congrats on acceptance to Duke! This is a wonderful BSN program and Durham is a fun place for you out-of-towners. If anyone has questions about the program, let me know. :-)

Hi DukeRN87, I applied for the Fall 2014 ABSN program and now I am on the waiting list. I have not heard anything. I talked to admissions and they said my best option would be to apply for Spring 2015 which is what I am doing now. My question is do I have chance since my GPA is not 4.0 but I have a lot work experience working in a medical environment especially externing at a hospital working under RN's and receiving commendation from one of the head nurses of a Cancer unit. What is it that the admissions committee look at when accepting a person into the program? I just want to know because although I am on the waiting list, I have no idea what number I am and no one is telling me anything. Please advise. Thanks.

Hey BlueGirl17, many people in my cohort did not have a 4.0 and the GPA is by far not the most important factor in the admissions process. I would consider searching out extra-curricular opportunities that can diversify your portfolio. From what I can tell, Duke tries to admit students who are strong academically, but well-rounded and that can add to an already diverse student body. I would also suggest applying for Spring 2015. If Duke is your goal, don't give up on it. I had the most amazing experience at Duke. You can do it, and you absolutely have a chance at admission. Also, unfortunately many deny their admission because of Duke's priceā€¦ keep waiting :-)

Thanks for the encouragement DukeRN87. I am happy to say that I submitted my application for Spring 2015 and my financial aid forms. It's just the waiting is killing me! I don't know where I am on the waiting list however, it's sad many are denying thier admission to Duke because of the price but for me all I care about doing the program because I have an opportunity to learn a lot and become an RN in less time than the traditional 4-year program. I am confident that I will be admitted for Spring 2015 if not by fall 2014.

Staying in faith.... :-)

Hey Guys, I am applying to Duke for the Spring 2016 semester. I have a pretty good undergrad GPA and my prerequisite classes that they want are pretty good too. I also have healthcare experience and have studied abroad. Can you send in your transcripts before the application or do they want it the other way around? I have always wanted to go to Duke and had the opportunity to do a Summer Medical and Dental program at Duke a couple years back and loved it. I also can't see myself doing anything else except for nursing. If anyone currently in the program or who has graduated could message me it would be greatly appreciated.
