I applied to the Duke SON ABSN program for the Fall of 2014. Anyone else out there who is applying for the same cohort? I saw that last year, the applicants got their interview/Duke Days letters at the end of January... hopefully we'll hear back soon! Good luck to everyone!
I've been following this thread for the past few months and finally decided to register so I could jump in! I too was accepted for Duke's Fall 2014 ABSN cohort, but am having trouble deciding between Duke and UCF. I fell in love with Duke during my interview, but the cost is so intimidating compared to UCF. Please offer any opinions on the two!!!
@MelissaJoellen I would recommend going with the program you won't regret. I too decided on a different program in state that was cheaper and still an amazing school - UW. For me personally, the cost outweighed all the other things duke had to offer me that UW didn't, such as study abroad opportunities and really close relationships with clinical instructors. However when that financial aid report came in, I couldn't justify to myself spending 80k on only the first three semesters.. and still a 20k left for the last semester in fall - I had to loan out completely. If you are in a very comfortable financial situation however, and money isn't an issue, if you are only looking at the programs, go with the one you love and wont' regret choosing. I guess ask yourself, what are you looking for in a program? Can you get the experience you want out of UCF? hopefully my input helped haha. Other students from duke have stated they love the program and it was worth the cost. Others have stated to go to a cheaper program due to debt. I guess it's all about your preference =) Best wishes in your decision - either way you will be a great nurse!
Hi guys. I was accepted for this Fall cohort, but I just found myself pregnant!!! I remember on the Duke Day, a current student said something about pregnant students and students with other critical family issues in her cohort. Can someone help me to recall some details? Do you think I can still go to DUSON, dealing with this intensive program, while being prepared for the birth and taking care of my newborn at the same time? I want to go to DUSON so much!!!

We have a girl in my cohort who is pregnant and the school is working around her. If you want you can contact admissions and maybe they will put you in touch with other students who were in similar situations or the might give you more exact details on how that could work semester by semester.
Hello everyone,
I too have been accepted into the fall 2014 cohort, and have decided to attend. I have been reading the thread for a couple months now, and finally have a question I can't seem to find an answer to-- I received notice of my financial aid package via email, but see nothing about the "need based" scholarship awarded by DUSON (only federal subsidized/unsubsidized and outside lender amounts). Does this mean I will not receive that assistance? Or do they send that out separately?
If anyone knows, I'd appreciate the help! I'm very excited and look forward to meeting you all in the fall. :)

Thank you guys for all your opinions. I am also planning on getting a Master or even a DNP. So now I am pretty sure that I am going too! See you this fall!
