I applied to the Duke SON ABSN program for the Fall of 2014. Anyone else out there who is applying for the same cohort? I saw that last year, the applicants got their interview/Duke Days letters at the end of January... hopefully we'll hear back soon! Good luck to everyone!
Another random question about your schedules as students...do any of you have pets? And if so, is it hard to maintain them with the program?
We have quite a few who do have pets. It probably helps if you have a roommate. I'm not sure what their plans will be the second semester when the 13 hour clinical days start (plus commute time).
If you received it should be included. It's $5K for the first year. I know one of the older threads posted a letter from the Financial Aid office that basically implied your EFC on the FAFSA pretty much had to be 0 to get the need based scholarship.I know on the FB group we had several people post sublets or available apartments to rent. Duke also provided us the following links which you should get when the Sakai site opens up for you. It may be a bit early to start truly looking. Research carefully, we've had some in cohort already looking to move. Many do take advantage of the Duke bus system or the Data Buses (which are free for students, get a GoPass).

Thank you for the help. I am going to be in Durham for the summer, so I wanted to kind of get an idea of what is available to me.
@Melissa. As other students have said, it really boils down to what would work best for you. Every nursing program will have their pros and cons and you have to decide what nursing program can offer what you are looking for. I am not in an amazing financial position and no matter where I go in-state or out-state, I will be taking out loans. So, I just had to look at what I wanted and what was being offered to me and if it was worth it. At the end of the day, go with the program that seems the best fit for you and also the one that will get you to be the nurse you want to be.
