Duke ABSN Fall 2014 Hopefuls

U.S.A. North Carolina

Published

I applied to the Duke SON ABSN program for the Fall of 2014. Anyone else out there who is applying for the same cohort? I saw that last year, the applicants got their interview/Duke Days letters at the end of January... hopefully we'll hear back soon! Good luck to everyone!

I still haven't received anything yet. I just want to know what factors do they look at when they choose someone.

Is there a holistic approach to the application process ? I am interested in knowing because I am HOPING for the best but I am not sure anymore.

Congrats to you! Just wanted to know what does the school look at when choosing someone for an interview. Do they really look at the whole person or is it about the gpa and grades. Any advice would help.

Make sure you all check your spam/ other random inbox folders... At first, I thought I didn't get an invite, but mine ended up being in my "promotions" folder in gmail!

I think that Duke is looking at the whole picture. Grades, GPA, essay, letter of recommendations, etc. It could be a number of things. But I wouldn't lose hope just yet, you never know what might happen. :)

Thanks for the encouragement. My undergrad GPA was average but my post-grad gpa is stellar and I have hospital experience. My recommendations are glowing with praise and my resume is impressive so I pray God willing that they take that into consideration. Plus my GRE score was not so great but I know that I can do well in this program . I just want an opportunity because I know that I want to be a nurse.

Bluegirl, if you haven't received a response yet you should call! From last year did they waves of the same day, interview, waitlist, and rejection. So you should have heard by now! best wishes to you, you sound like a great applicant! =)

Hi Mewei! I just sent my RSVP for Duke days! I am also from California so I was excited to see that someone else is from California also! Have you decided if you are flying out or doing a skype interview?

Hi there! Well I called the admissions office and asked about the possibility of a Skype or phone interview, and they said it was HIGHLY recommended by the admissions committee that you attend Duke Days and do the interview in person... So I RSVP'ed for the 28th, but I haven't bought a plane ticket yet. I'm actually waiting to hear back from UPenn and Columbia for their direct entry programs in these next few weeks, so if I get good news from either of those schools I am going to withdraw my application from Duke. Which day did you RSVP for? I'm from the Bay Area, what about you?

Hi everyone, I called admissions and right now I am on the wait list. So I have the option of being taken off the wait list and reapply in Spring 2015 or stay on the waitlist. At least I am not on the rejected list.

I am going to stay on the list because things might change for the better. I hope I hope I hope!!!

Hello again!

That's what an admissions lady told me too when I called! I bought a plane ticket for the 21st because I want to get a feel for the campus because I have never been before! I am actually from southern california, specifically Orange county but I go to school in San Diego! It would definitely be an adjustment but I am looking forward to a little bit of a change! :)

That is really ironic that you are waiting for UPenn because I applied to UPenn as well! I applied to their ABSN second degree program though. I had a phone interview with them the first week in January and the lady I spoke with I think they said the admissions comittee is getting back together the first week of February? I actually have a friend from Newport Beach, California that I played soccer with and she goes to Columbia and absolutely loves it. Both of those schools would be awesome, I wish you the best!!

Hello BlueGirl17!

I think that you should stay on the waitlist because that is an accomplishment in itself! You never know what could happen and I would encourage you to never give up! I just spoke with a friend that had applied to over 16 schools, wrote close to a hundred essays, and got rejected by 8 different schools. He never gave up and now he just got accepted to Johns Hopkins University nurse practitioner program, and with an almost full paid scholarship! You have gotten this far so sit back and let what's going to happen, happen! :)

Wow that's a coincidence haha, I went to school in San Diego also! :) So I've lived in California my whole life and am too looking forward to mixing it up a little bit. Thanks, and good luck to you as well! Any idea which school you would pick if you get into both UPenn and Duke?
