How many of you were required you to take a drug test for NS? I'm assuming not many, if any.

I wasn't tested prior to admission to the program or for my nursing program, but certain clinical sites require testing.

We have to get a drug screen and background check before starting, and then we have to do it again every year we're in the program.
Wouldn't be that bad except it's like $100 each time...

It's required at my school to get drug tested within the first week of starting the program, and they can decide to test you randomly at any point after that.

My school requires a drug screen and background check (it's rather intensive, I requested the results of mine out of curiosity, they even pull driving records) prior to starting any classes, and also does random monthly drug screens where if you're selected, you have 4 hours to give a sample, or you're kicked out.

Yeah my main concern was about the cost because I won't be working but my schools website says nothing about having to take them and just says some clinical sites may require them. I'm hoping I won't have to shell out 100$ for each clinical site I'm at. I know ours isn't based on how many years we're in the programs as its an ABSN for 15 months.
They also didn't mention anything at orientation regarding drug tests in general or random screenings and if we would be responsible for paying.

Yes. Mainly because the clinical sites require them before we start clincal. We never know till 24 hours in advance though. And we are subjected to them randomly. One positive drug test and you are out the program. (unless you have a prescription)
I'm on a prescription drug that I take daily...

If its a tested substance the result will be pending. The medical review officer will contact you and state that you tested positive for so and so ( ex narcotics). You tell them why ( on cough syrup with codeine) and they will contact your dr to make sure you have a script for it. As long as everything comes back ok, your result will be pass.
Ok, thank you! I have no clue if mine would show up or not because I really know nothing about drug tests in general.
