My Littman Cardiology III came with both types of ear pieces, the soft and the hard. I love it, wouldn't trade it for any other kind. (I work CVICU) However, I found in school that the pedi side wasn't near as useful as I thought it would be with neonates, I always ended up using one of the infant littmans that the NICU had.
i also have the littman cadiology iii and love it. i think which kind of stethoscope you like and use is a personal preference. my suggestion is if you know someone who has one,..try it out and see how you like it. some people like the less expensive ones just as well and there is less of a chance of it getting stolen ( even if your name is engraved on it). :)
i have 2 littmans. started out with the cardiology scope but it's so heavy! just bought a littman lightweight and so far i love it. i had an extra pair of soft tips around here so i put them on the lightweight.
granted, the sounds aren't nearly the quality of the cardiology but i can still hear everything i need.
Well the DRG cardiology comes in a titanium version, which is much lighter than the steel chest piece.
The eartips are gel, and they have some liquid inside them making them much more form fitting than any other type of ear tip.
And there is Bose technology in the stethoscope.
Also the tubing is a different type of tubing and it will not break down over time, even if it comes into contact with your skin (the PVC tubing does, which is what the Littmann's are made of).
So, it seems based on what I have read to be a superior stethoscope.
I read a review that an EMT did, and he said it was better than the Littmann master cardiology (or cardiology III, I can't remember which) but he already had a Littmann and didn't want to replace it and spend more money. But he said if he didn't already buy the Littmann, he would have went with the DRG (which he saw at a fair after the fact).
So we will see.

I put this in an old stethoscope thread so I wouldn't have to start a new one, but no one answered.
Does anyone own a DRG cardiology scope?
I was going to buy a Littmann, but I read up on them and it seems they have more comfortable eartips and better accoustics.
Any opinions?
Money isn't a consideration since this will be a gift.
I'm going to have it engraved so no one will steal it.
(I know I work in L&D but I want a cardiology scope because it has a pedi size and adult size built into one: so I can use it on moms and babes)
