hi guys!
i am new here as a poster but i have been reading posts about nclex for months now. this forum has been uber informative and helpful for people like me who want to become rns.
i failed my nclex mos ago with 180 qs. took me a while to move on then took my second try on jan 31st 2008 with 75 qs. i understand that no numbers can predict our status until we get our results either online or on paper esp that i took it here in california. i am curious though about the competency of a type of question. i read that priority questions are high-level questions, content knowledge including calculations are low-level, sata has not been discussed what competency level it belongs to (or i missed it), and i noticed 'drag and drop' type is not common in actual tests. i was wondering if any one of you here guys have some opinions of the competency of satas and drag-and-drop qs.
my second try with 75 qs had 1 drag&drop, 5-10 priorities, more than 6 satas, 5 meds, 2-3 calculations, and the rest is mixed with delegations and must be questions that are low level, not certain.
i do not have my results yet and i am experiencing the anxiety others are experiencing while waiting but trying hard to keep my cool.
thank you for the responses.

I took my test yesterday, had 85 questions.NCLEX PN. I had NO med calculation questions, and NO lab value questions. I had 10 or so med questions patient teaching regarding the meds. I had 5 or so on OB which suprised my cause they say OB is not so much on the NCLEX. I had about 6-7 SATA and those threw me off. I had 1 drag and drop and I think I got that one with no problem. I had never seen any of them before.
Anyway, I guess its just a waiting game now. Hope you do well, keep your head up!

From what I heard, the SATA, priority, and drag and drop are all high competency questions. It sounds like you rocked it!
i did rock it! hehe. thanks!
my materials were: Saunders (book and cd) for basic concepts, Kaplan books and Princeton review book for techniques to pass the NCLEX. Saunders covers everything we should know about NCLEX but Kaplan has a lot of practice questions in delegations and prioritizations. Princeton review book provides additional information (which was very helpful to me) on how NCLEX works! But if u would have to choose only one material among the three.. i say Saunders will do! Knowing concepts will lead you to high-level-competency questions.
I passed my NCLEX the 2nd time! i found out about it 4 days after my exam date. Studying was nothing but a pain for me but the pain was all worth it!
Do not lose faith.. DO UR BEST and God will do the rest. and remember, failing is not your best.. let failure bring out the best in you.. let failure transform you into something that you have never been.. let it guide you to your BEST!
When tired, get rest, then keep going!
Goodluck, future RNs!

hi sunny,
as per the information provided in mosby’s comprehensive review, 17th edition, drag and drop and sata pattern questions are considered to be in the high competency level. i feel that your competency is high based on the higher number of questions on delegation and prioritizing care. this was my experience as well as that of my friends who have completed nclex-rn successfully.
so, i would advice you to relax and stay positive. i wish you would receive a positive result from your nursing board.
backiam rn,

Hi everyone;
After doing much reading in regards to the NCLEX on this site I decided to post a comment. I graduated in December 07 and have been studying for the NCLEX here in California. I plan on taking it first week of March. Just like everyone I am freaking out as well. So far I have taken around 2000 questions and read many strategies. I finished the 07-08 Kaplan review book. I went through the contents of Hurst CD. I also answered hundreds of Lippincott's NCLEX review book. I also just signed up today for the rnquiz.com but I didn't like it all that much so I am trying to get a refund. From what I hear Hurst review is the closest thing to NCLEX. It teaches test taking and critical thinking strategies. My plan is to take more questions from Saunders (which I am not a huge fan of since to me it is just another text book that I studied in nursing school) and Lippincott's until the first week of March. I appreciate everyone's tips and inputs in regards to NCLEX. Can anyone please tell me what they think of the materials I listed such as Hurst, Lippincott's, Kaplan, and Saunder's?

I did the live Hurst Review and questions from Lippincott's. (just found out today that I passed!) The Hurst review is what best prepared me for the types of questions that were on the NCLEX-RN. There are lots of practice questions in the handbook and on the CD. Also watch the review of the mock nclex on the Hurst review CD, I found that to be very beneficial. Good Luck!
