Dose BON check school records ?

Nurses Criminal

Published

Hi everyone, I am getting ready to apply for my RN license after lots of work and study.

I did not go to traditional school and do not have a diploma. So I am wondering if BON will check and see if I went to the school I put on my application ?

I know most of you are thinking I have no business as a nurse without schooling. **Wait.* *Let me explain my experience a little. I had a unfortunate teenage life that got me 8-years in prison, in prison I spent a lot of time in the hospital ward where I feel in love with nursing. I became a helper and learned everything I could learn about nursing.

I spent ALL of my time ether being a nurse, reading books about nursing, watching TV about nursing, talking to other nurses about nursing... I love everything about nursing..

Now I am free and I am ready to be a nurse on the outside. I have studied the application I will leave out my criminal past but I am not sure if BON will check if I went to nursing school or not.

Any information I can get on this will be very helpful.

Thank you

Well, you can't actually perform as a nurse without a nurse license, that would be illegal. You need to pass the licensure test before getting a license and you must meet criteria to take that exam.

You must submit transcripts. I am not sure you can get a nursing license with a criminal past but I don't know the regs on that.

Yes they will confirm

Oh dear, You have a lot to learn, just accept the advise from real nurses on here.

*long sigh* We are actual nurses who have gone through the process and many have already told you that you can NOT under any circumstance cheat the background check for the NCLEX. Also, nothing you have done in prison compares to an actual nursing education.

Based on your responses you're either trolling, or completely lack self awareness of the attitude you're displaying.

Again, no you can NOT take the NCLEX, yes they will check your background and education, even if your state has no background checks the NCLEX does and they maintain a national database, and lastly, even if you cheat all of those medical facilites are obligated to do some form of check via Senate bills.

The mere fact you're trying to become a nurse by nefarious means only displays the fact you didn't learn anything in jail but how to be (what you think) is a better criminal cause your whole premise and subsequent responses are all criminal in nature.

If you tried to get a job as a nurse I believe that that would probably put you in a position to catch another charge ... practicing without a license. I wish you well but if you are going to become a nurse then you have to go through all the same stuff the rest of us did

Fist off I am getting my licence. Sorry you went tru so much, but not everone takes the same path in life. Some take the hard road and other take the easy way. Just becouse you took the long way dosn't mean other have to.

In any case, a lot (if not all) states require fingerprint submission with the application for licensure so not sure if you'll get flagged in the system. And every state I've practiced in the BON sends out a public announcement to all nurses who get in trouble with the board, inevitably every quarter there are a number of people listed for "failure to disclose".

Not all states have fingerprint submission. Only some do. and not mine.

Question: Why not just go to nursing school and do this the right way?

1 I already have done nursing work and am not going to spend time and money on stuff I already know.

2 Your personal way is not always the "right way".

Taking and PASSING NCLEX-RN or PN without actually going to nursing school...uh good luck!

8 years in prison leaves a lot of time to study. Believe me I have read all the NCLEX guide book cover to cover and taken all the practice tests over and over.

I am starting to sense some jealousy in the room. I know for a lot of you it seems like I am trying to cheat that is not the case.

I spent a lot of years in study and practice as a nurse. More then your average nursing graduate. I am ready to take the NCLEX and I am more then ready to work the floor. Just because I did not jump tru the hoops you did doesn't mean I didn't jump tru hoops or put in the work.

Hey, if you're going to try to get licensed without having gone to school, why not shoot for the moon and apply for the physician licensure exam? I'm sure you know as much as doctors do, from your years of hanging out on the prison medical ward ... Maybe they won't check your education and legal background, either.

Mavrick I did much more then "little tasks". I also did much more then school classes and field trips..

I would run parts of the hospital ward. I would tell the CNAs what to do and organize the entire show while the nurses from the outside slept, watched tv and did manicures.

I was also the main nurse in my block. When people got sick they came to me.

School do not hold a light to my real experience. In the day people learned trades by experience. Now society is weak and corrupt kids sit in school and pay money for careers. Olde school right here.

You want to talk about trust ?

In prison you do not just go to the hospital. You have to ask some fat inbred guard to talk to a nurse and see is you might be able to get some help. Many time people do not make past the fat inbred pig to help. That's when I helped and I also acted as a trusted liaison.

People trust me in bad situations. Do you know why I did 8 years ? Because I don't rat on people. When things get tough most people cannot be trusted. The ones that can are what trust is about.

kbrn2002 There is ALWAYS a way. When you say there is not you limit yourself and others that might listen to you.

OK guys I have a serous question ..? I have a copy deplomia from a school it has my name on it. Will BON or NCLEX call to confirm I went to that school ?

Whelp now you can add Forgery to your record

I am confused too. Is this a real question? You need more than a history of playing a nurse in order to be one, you need professional schooling. You also need a healthy respect for people, while it is OK to question any given situation, your lack of respect for other nurses and law enforcement (ie name calling) do not show a maturity level ready for nursing. Do you think that while you are in jail you should be allowed to come and go as you please? I am all for second chances but make sure you are ready, doing it for the right reasons, and doing it legally. I don't know what you mean by 'copy deplomia' but the BON and/or employers will not only check everything they will also run a background check for criminal activity etc.

Yes, of course they will. They would need to verify dates of attendance, graduation, clinical hours, course work, etc

So I kind of get where you are coming from in the sense that those of us who worked as techs sometimes feel the first couple of semesters of nursing school are bringing other people up to speed. I worked in a hospital for years before nursing school and did feel like the first two semesters were a waste--the last 2 though are what made me a nurse.

You may very well have a very good foundation and a wonderful caretaker but let me ask you whether the prison ever sent people out? Have you ever taken care of a vented patient? One with a lumbar drain? A chest tube? Can you read a rhythm strip? Do you know how to assess for suicidal ideation? You might even be able to assess when someone needs to go to the hospital but without the formal education combined with experience you won't pass Nclex and still need to make it through nursing school. it is frustrating but in healthcare overconfidence kills people.

If you are serious about it it will be worth the work and the wait.

I have nothing to add that may assist in helping the OP commit fraud in their attempts to obtain a nursing license. However, I am questioning if this post is violating AN Terms of Service which states 'You agree NOT to post false, defamatory, name-calling, obscene, or threatening messages'.

I think the OP is...bored. I think he or she's been having a bit of fun with us. This guy I worked with in the psych hospital would occasionally leave messages on my phone that sounded just like a raving patient. ...he was bored. The first time I fell for it, after that, I loved it. :)
