Don't know what to do (job offer)

Published

I just graduated with my BSN in December and have been searching for jobs for a while. I got a call from Emory and Northeast GA Med Center and they said they would forward my resume to the nurse manager. I had an interview with the Medical Center of Central Georgia on Monday and they offered me a job.

I would really rather stay closer to Atlanta or the north side, so I don't know what to do. I don't want to turn down this offer since it's been difficult for new grads. At the same time I really want to hear from these other hospitals.

Should I call them and tell them I had a job offer and I want to see if they are still interested in me? MCCG wants an answer by Monday but they still haven't told me about pay and benefits so I'm thinking about asking for another day or two or think about it. In the meantime, I can contact the other hospitals.

Any suggestions?

"I believe you have to sign a contract. They put a lot of time and effort into training their new grads so that's prob why they male them sign contracts."

Hello! I am actually flying into Macon, GA because I had a phone interview for the med/surg floor about a month ago, and they want me to come in and give me a tour of the hospital as well.

I was told that I had to sign a contract if I ended up liking the atmosphere and the unit itself. I was only planning on staying there for about a year, because it is a far move from California, and would like to eventually end up back home someday..

Do you happen to know how many years their contract would be?

The ICU has a contract for 2 years so I'm assuming it would be around the same for a two year contract. They told me I would have to pay back a portion of $2000 if I left before the contract was up. Good luck!

Thank you for replying! I am flying in on Tuesday, and they want to give me a tour of the hospital on Thursday, as well as work with an RN for an hour to see how I like it. I currently have a California RN license, and haven't even endorsed for a GA license yet, so we will just have to see how it goes. But thanks for sharing this info, I needed to start weighing out my options, as well as start planning if for the next two years over there!

I got an offer from Med Center as well but they are requiring an 18 month contract to be completed. Its a med surg floor and they are only offering 8 weeks of orientation so I'm a bit confused as to why they think I would owe them $2000. I have potential job offers from two other hospitals Fairview Park in Dublin and Coliseum also in Macon, they don't have a contract and their orientation is 12-13 weeks for new grads. I like the Med center but their contract is sketchy.

Just my two cents:

all I hear about coliseum is run, run, run. Not a good hopital for nurses.

MCCG is a good hospital and you will learn a lot but it is hard work. If you do take their $2000. Do not spend it, just in case you quit in 3-6months. They go through nurses a lot and i guess the contract is to help boost retention. Good luck

Thanks @TickyRN, you actually answered the question I had asked of you in the other thread LOL.

What are the benefits for MCCG? I have an interview coming up but I am just kind of curious as to what they are. I am unable to find anything listed on the website and I noticed $2000 keeps being mentioned. Is that a sign on bonus?

I ended up not taking the job offer, but they basically offer life insurance, health insurance: dental and vision..the basics...the $2000 that you probably keep seeing refers to the money that they give you if you are relocating from another state. Also, if you decide to quit before the two year contract, you would have to pay a minimum amount of money...but it becomes less each month that you decided to stay. I don't have the benefits paper in front of me as of this moment, but I can PM you the exact details of it if you'd like :)

If you could PM me that would be great! Do you mind me asking why you decided not to take the job offer?

I ended up taking the job offer from MCCG despite the 18 month contract. The benefits offered to new grads are you get hired on as a nurse extern grad which only pays a little over $12 an hour until you get your RN number and are promoted to clinical nurse, but this position gives you a chance to get oriented to the hospital and your prior to working as a nurse. They also offer a $500 stipend for your boards and any reviews you take. You still pay for your boards but are given up to $500 back after showing receipts. They also offer a one time loan repayment of $5000 for a 12 month commitment which is really what caught my attention being in student loan debt after these last four years working on my BSN. I like that the facility offers a work on weekend only shift which pays a $5 diff plus weekend diff and night shift diff. New grads can do this after 6 months experience. They offer the usual life insurance, short/long term disability, health insurance, term life insurance, dental/vision insurance, and a 403B retirement account which they match up to %5. Its a level 1 trauma facility and also a magnet status hospital so I think its a good place to start your career especially with the opprotunities to work on different floors. I thought the 18 month contract was sketchy but at the end of the day I had always planned to stay at least a year at my first job whether I liked it or not to gain experience so 6 more months shouldn't make or break me.

Hey guys! I'm a little late with my post, however, I was wondering if someone who was recently offered a position at MCCG as new grad, could tell me how long from the time you applied online did you receive a call for an interview?

I am an our of state applicant, and I was wondering if the process is anything like NY where you have to harass HR constantly just to find out information, or if they contact you right away?
