I just graduated with my BSN in December and have been searching for jobs for a while. I got a call from Emory and Northeast GA Med Center and they said they would forward my resume to the nurse manager. I had an interview with the Medical Center of Central Georgia on Monday and they offered me a job.
I would really rather stay closer to Atlanta or the north side, so I don't know what to do. I don't want to turn down this offer since it's been difficult for new grads. At the same time I really want to hear from these other hospitals.
Should I call them and tell them I had a job offer and I want to see if they are still interested in me? MCCG wants an answer by Monday but they still haven't told me about pay and benefits so I'm thinking about asking for another day or two or think about it. In the meantime, I can contact the other hospitals.
Any suggestions?

Phone them first thing Monday morning. You never know, it might just get them to shift their butts!
When I last applied for a job...21 years ago I had a definite offer from one hospital, but the facility where I wanted to work hadn't come back to me. So, I did precisely what you are considering-I called them and said I had an offer, and if they were still considering me. They called me back the same day for an appointment to interview, and I started there within 2 weeks.
It's not as if you would be lying, just letting them know you're marketable, and you're not letting the grass grow under your feet.
Good luck!
Ok thanks, I think I will. You don't think it'll be strange to call them when I just talked to them on Thursday and Friday about my resume being forwarded?
Ok, I'm not sure if I get you here; your resume was forwarded to the Nurse Manager at the Atlanta hospital on Monday; have I got that right? You then contacted other hospitals in the area where you want to work on Thursday and Friday to tell them your resume had been forwarded to the Atlanta hospital? Or are these hospitals all in the same group as the Atlanta one?
I'm assuming the Atlanta hospital then got back to you on Friday with an offer?
I'm sorry, I should have clarified more. Macon interviewed me last Tuesday (Feb 1) and offered me a job yesterday.
I talked to Emory Thursday and Northeast Ga on Friday. Both of them said they would forward my resume to the nurse managers and I haven't heard from them yet.

Here's what I would do. I would call Macon on Monday and ask them to send you a formal offer letter stating the pay and benefits before you are able to give them a definite decision. I would contact Emory and NE Georgia, let them know that you spoke with them on Friday and understand your resume was forwarded to the nurse manager, but late Friday you received an offer from Macon. Be honest with them, let them know that you are interested in working for them, but cannot let an opportunity pass, and you would like to know if they will be hiring soon. Sometimes a resume is forwarded to a nurse manager, but it doesn't necessarily mean they expect to hire someone now.
Are you planning on commuting from Atlanta to Macon?
That sounds good too. I think I will do that and hopefully some progress will be made and Emory and/or Northeast GA will schedule an interview.
I will probably move to Macon if I accept the offer. I think it would be too much of a commute. My house is about 1.5 hours from the hospital.
Definitely get the offer in writing if you are planning on moving down to Macon. They should understand your need to have more time to decide since it involves a move and this will buy you some time to see if an opportunity exists at either of the other places. Good luck, I hope it all works out for you.
Thanks for the advice. How much time should I ask for to make a decision? I really think they want an answer Monday but that's just too soon for me.
I'm really surprised they are pushing you to make a decision before discussing the pay and benefits. Could it be they just want to know if you are interested enough for them to make you a formal offer? If so, there's no harm in telling them you are interested but will need the details before you can commit to them. They should be willing to give you a week after they've made a formal offer for you to evaluate it and make a decision. Unless they are trying to get you hired before the next orientation or something in that nature. But even in that case, they will need to let you know the pay/benefits prior to expecting you to commit to them.
The nurse manager didn't know I wasn't told about pay and benefits before she offered me the job so she told me to call back on Monday and get the info. Then she said I can tell her or the lady I talk to my decision. I'll ask for a week once she gives me everything.
Then I'll call the other places and hopefully they'll make some progress!
Ok, that makes sense, I didn't realize the NM was the one making the offer, I thought it was coming from HR. Well good luck and hopefully one of the other places will come through next week.
