I just got home from taking the NCLEX and i felt that Saunders did a good job with explaining content. Kaplan-maybe for strategy, but it all came down to content. i got 12 SATA, 2 med questions 3-4 infection control, 8 meds and i would say that 80% was prioritize, who would you see first, who is in the greatest risk. I also got 2-3 about floating nursings which i thought was weird b/c it asked what patient would you give this nurse from such and such unit. i know that is delegation, but i expected to be asked about lvns or nursing assistants. I got a lot of teaching patients. Endocrine, DM, peds cleft lip, and Botox!!! hope thst helps. i want to thank all who post on this wonderful site. it has truely been helpful. now i have to wait.....

thanks, i did study mostly saunders CD and i get around 80%; do you think that the nclex questions are similar to nclex? my friends kind of scared me last min that saunders is not the right way to go i have couple of days left wish me luck.... and good luck to you :)
Yes, study both if you want. I only studied Saunders b/c i felt i needed to review content. Today, after taking the nclex, i felt it is an absolute must to know your content even if you learned the kaplan strategies.

Thanks for confirming what I have been saying right along. They do the best job with rationales over any other book that I have reviewed. And I will continue to use them only in my reviews.
Thanks again.

I am a big Saunders fan too. Me and everyone else in my class who used it for the NCLEX-PN passed with the minimum amount of questions. I will definitely stick with Saunders when I take my NCLEX-RN sometime in May '09.
The first thing I did when I started my second year was buy the 4th edition for RN and I passed along my old PN 3rd edition to the incoming PN students. They say it has actually helped them understand their test and improved their grades.

Do you think if you just studied with kaplan that you would not have succeeded on the exam?
I probably should hae read this earlier, my NCLEX is tomorrow, and I Just kinda did kaplan :/
My scores on kaplan were 70 (readiness) and 71 (post exam)...
Help?

I found Saunders just before I took my 3rd attempt back in 2004 and wished I had found it sooner as I loved how it explained the rationales

No, i am not saying that. Each person is different in how they prepare for the NCLEX. I felt i needed the "content" and kaplan, even though i did not take the qtrainer or classes, i just briefly ready the book when i first started to study, felt i was horrible at answering their questions.
With reviewing content, one night i said, let me do some kaplan questions. i did and felt i scored better having reviewed content.

I totally agree, Saunders is the best. I just passed with 75 questions, and even though I was given 2 review courses by my school and job, I really studied exclusively out of Saunders. It totally helps you to review your content, and even though some of the questions seem very easy (I did all 4214), the repetition of those will help you so much, especially with those SATA's. I also agree that their rationales are very detailed, and I loved that it gave you a strategy with each question. During my school time I have occasionally tried other questions, like Lippencots 3500, but often did not get their rationales at all.

Do you use quiz or do you do the tests? I did go thru Kaplan and have done hundreds of Saunders 4th cd. I have been doing kaplan qt and some qbank along with about 50 saunders a day.
I do love saunders rationales but felt I needed something else so I got Kaplan too. Take the test on the 15.
Any advise would be helpful
I only had one month to study so I did about 100 questions a day, sometimes more, sometimes less. I couldn't do any when I had to work twelve hours, I was just to tired.
I just went through the CD, question after question, I did not do the tests or quizzes, because I know those are the same questions, just randomly picked. I also read the book cover to cover for review.

Do you suggest doing quizzes or tests on the Saunders CD and how many a day 2 weeks to go?
