Dominican College ABSN 2021

Published

Hello everybody!

I recently applied to Dominican College Weekday ABSN 2021 and would like to meet current applicants, current or former students.  I would also like to read about others experience and thoughts about the school/nursing program in general.

Let's share our experience through this process.

Thanks!

Hey Guys!

Yeah I'm so confused. So in my portal it says I've been accepted into the WABSN program as a transfer student for Summer 2021-2022.  However, the documents mailed to me say my start date is May '22. I've been trying to contact them to figure out what is going on but no one has messaged me yet. I do have a TON of prerequisites to complete. My GPA wasn't the greatest and I have about 9 prerequisites to complete(it's going to be a rough few months). There's no way I could do these in a regular classroom by next May, especially because I have a 5month old baby and I work full-time. I went to the virtual open house and I was told that they would accept online credits as long as they were from an accredited school. I still need to write the TEAS, do a math placement test & writing placement test. Wait a minute, are these placement tests essentially ? TEAS??

It's hard to get in contact with anyone from this school! That has me a little troubled because they don't have great NCLEX scores and I choose this school because I've never heard of a WABSN program.

Hey!

So for prerequisites, I completed one through CLEP, which allows you to test out of a course. I studied for a bit from the study materials given then went and took the exam, and got a B+. I definitely recommend this if you have a testing center near you- as it is a quick and much cheaper option for completing some of the prereqs. It was less than $100. The other 2 I had to do I did through an Online Uni.

I have to take the writing placement exam, but am unsure of how to go about taking it?

The TEAS is an exam kind of like the GRE for nursing, which I believe is separate from the match and writing placement exams.

Communication has been difficult for me as well but had success in getting in contact with the Admissions Counselor and nursing Admin Assistant.

Hope this helps!

@Allie Lou My portal says something different too so I’d go by what you received in the mail. I did the writing placement and it is not the TEAS . You basically have 2 hours to write an essay (they supply the topic). It was easy!

@Caytee Did they send you a packet after you were accepted to the school? The directions for the writing test are in there - it was a while ago but I believe you are directed to a website where you write an essay, then you save your results and send them to Bonnie.

Thank you! I was thinking of taking CLEP for Lifespan  Psychology. My first degree was in Psyche and I just never took the course during undergrad. I took Gerontology, Childhood Psyche and other Lifespan type of courses but not this one.

@AshleyCap The admissions office told me that they are accepting courses through portage learning at this time. Maybe due to covid? This is where I’m doing my prerequisites, including courses with labs!

Thank goodness because I've been studying my *** off!

Sounds doable! Thank you!

@Fingerscrossed2021  Yes, I received one thanks I'll set that up!

I have not taken my TEAS yet, however someone from the program reached out to me a few weeks ago and said I NEED to take it ASAP. I've been studying a lot and am scheduled to take the test next week.

Portage is much cheaper than the other online universities. I'm glad to hear that they are accepting all of your courses.

When I applied I was told that we didn’t need the TEAS completed before a decision just before the program started? Is it now that it needs to be completed before hand to be accepted?

I just went to CLEP.com and it says Dominican accepts a few of their courses.

@Susan7037 Yes mine was accepted! I would reach out to the admin counselor just to be 100% certain that this hasn't changed.

That's what I thought as well! I was taken by surprise when I received the email saying that I had to complete it ASAP. I reached out and was told the same over the phone. Maybe they are requiring it now from me for some reason?
