Does YOUR school allow pinning dispite...

Our students are asking to be pinned dispite the fact that they haven't passed their hesi yet. They say its not fair since they worked hard all year..but those of us who have passed think that its a priviledge to those who have met the mark.

Does your school allow this?

WHY do some people seem so interested in keeping others down? Do you and your hesi-passing classmates really think you're that much better than the other students who have completed the program? :icon_roll

Why are you implying Im putting anyone down? I just asked a question to see how other schools had decided.

I didn't say I was better.

Yep I passed tho. I do care about my classmates. Why the attitude?

My school allows them to go to pinning. I agree, they have worked hard for it and they deserve it. I just don't know if I would if I didn't pass. I know, that I would not be able to enjoy it at all. During the whole pinning ceremony, I would be thinking what if...(I have to repeat the class).

This post seems disingenuous to me. You definitely appear to have an agenda, judging from the wording of your original post. You seem to separate the students into two camps -- those who didn't pass and feel they deserve to go to the pinning and those who did pass and feel those who didn't shouldn't be allowed. I bet there other opinions including students who didn't pass HESI and no longer want to go to the pinning, and students who did pass and would be sorely dissappointed not to have their friends and classmates attend. If our school had this situation (which it will not, since we do HESI put passing isn't a requirement) then I am sure I'd consider myself of the latter opinion.

My program has a pinning/capping for every-one that is enrolled in their last term, regardless if we are passing or failing at the time. Our ceremony is held 2 weeks before graduation. I see pinning as the one last chance to celebrate with the classmates we started this long journey with. I'm happy to celebrate with all my classmates, and it doesn't matter to me whether they graduate this May vs Nov.

thing is folks... passing the HESI to get your pin is a moot point. Who cares? A pin does not symbolize passing.. it may symbolize the end of school.. but passing? no way. Passing NCLEX symbolizes the winning of the prize, crossing the finish line, making it.. receiving the RN behind your name. Just cuz the old broad who runs my school that I have never even met before jabs a pin into my pretty dress up clothes do I say whoo whooo, sticka fork in me, I am done because I passed all my tests and the HESI?? no way. In the back of my mind I say yeah, well this is all dandy but I still have the mother of all to pass, my boards.

The thing is tho, that this HESI is 60% of our grade in the course. So if you don't pass it on the next try, next monday, then you obviously didn't pass the semester and you won't walk for graduation. The pinning is saying you finished the semester with a passing grade. Why would they be pinned if they didn't pass the HESI then.

I'm not being difficult, just trying to convey our classes opinions so I can see if most people feel the same way.

Disingenuous? I don't hardly think you can judge typed words so easily.

The class is divided. I did nothing to cause that. Thats why I'm posting here. To see if the "virtual" world agrees or disagrees. And there are more than 2 positions. There are those who passed who Still think the failing students should pin.

Yes I said failing. Because without the 60% you get on your second semester grade it is impossible to pass. They all have another chance next Monday. Hopefully they'll all pass and this Will be a moot point.

I totally agree! Well said!

lol moongirl. Good point.

But being pinned Does show you passed the HESI and passed nursing school. As I said in another post, the HESI is 60% of our grade. So it means alot. There are more than a few students who are really struggling and are on the post due to their grades. Why should someone who is struggling to pass the course have the same rights and honors as those who have gotten passing grades?

again, don't shoot the messanger. These are feelings of some of our students that I'm sharing..
