Does YOUR school allow pinning dispite...

Our students are asking to be pinned dispite the fact that they haven't passed their hesi yet. They say its not fair since they worked hard all year..but those of us who have passed think that its a priviledge to those who have met the mark.

Does your school allow this?

Well the results are in.

Only 3 people passed the repeat HESI on monday. That leaves 12 who still didn't pass. There were loads of tears that day in the hallway I'm told.

So they won't get pinned. They now have to take a nclex refresh course and show proof that they took it. They can then retake the hesi in 4 weeks.

We had one person fail the last semester course and only find out last week. So she's gone too. And they tossed one girl out for "unsafe" practice on the floor.

Needless to say its been an emotional year..

This may be blunt, but maybe if people don't pass the HESI they shouldn't graduate or pass. This is a big indicator if people are getting what they should be out of school. Granted, it is partially an indicator of the teaching that is being done but also what you are learning. And, if it wasn't in the orientation materials... would people really have not gone thru the program if it was in there? I highly doubt it. People should be passing this test.

I agree. It sucks, and is a poor reflection of the teacher and school, but it is a straight forward test and should be easily passed. Most of my fellow students didn't even study for it.

I do have to take issue with an added requirement that counts for 80% of your final grade. If this wasn't listed as a requirement before then it seems a bit shady. It is obvious taht they are just trying to kep their NCLEX pass rates high, but this is kind of unfair to students who are passing the tests and everything else and now will be put on financial aid probation (academics) and their diploma/degree is held up because of this. I am also concerned with the fact taht 12 students failed and only 3 passed on the re-take. Why not have the students take the HESI on the last school break before their graduation as a practice to see where they need to focus attention and improve and then have the real HESI during their last semester count as their final exam. Seems more fair this way.

Well now don't get the two posters mixed up. My school counted the HESI as 60% of our final semester. And yes, last monday most of the students failed again.

I have to say tho, I take responsibility for my education. I honestly don't give loads of credit to the college for what I've learned this past year. I started on day one to review NCLEX questions on my own. I read after I got home. I did Not think that what I heard in lecture was the end all of what could be learned.

So when I get pinned on Tuesday, it will be because I took control of my learning experience and I made the effort and I passed!

Maybe some of these students didn't look at it the same way....?

Wow, jody, you must be bright. My school has keep me busy every spare second. I have had no time to study for HESI or NCLEX. But then we have a pass rate near 100% without the HESI-pass requirement. We do have to take it, but they use it only to diagnose our specific deficits for NCLEX study and deficits of the program. I don't plan to study one bit -- it might skew the results.

Well I hope so lol. Otherwise I would not of made it. Remember, this is an LPN-RN bridge course. So its been a jam packed 9 months. New program too. This is the second year in existance.

If I hadn't put in the extra effort I would not of made it. I'm just saying that you have to take responsiblity for your education. No use saying "they didn't teach me thatttt!!". You should be picking up information in other places too.

Busy? I've worked fulltime And gone to college fulltime. Trust me, I've been busy. I just didn't waste any time. PDA went with me everywhere with my Nclex questions. A few min.s here and there was taken advantage of.
