Does "your" instead of "you're" drive anyone else nuts?

...or do I just have PMS?

Specializes in Maternal - Child Health.

Yes.

And I'm not physically capable of having pms :)

Specializes in Med/Surg.

This is actually one of my biggest pet peeves, PMS or no PMS! :D

Oh yea it does.

Another one is "chose" vs "choose"

I see that all the time and it bugs the you know what out of me!

Specializes in neonatal intensive care.

Yes, it does. I am a grammar and spelling freak.

I think, as professionals, we should be mindful of these.

lose/loose and not knowing when to use him, her, he, she, me, I, myself, etc...

For example, it drives me nuts when a person says, "Just between you and I..."

Specializes in Cardiology, Oncology, Medsurge.

Loose, lose

Its it's

whose who's

there their

you're your

I plead guilty to all of the above ;-)

Years ago, I was extremely annoyed by grammatical and spelling errors in print, but with the internet, texting, maturity, and bigger fish to fry, I've pretty much gotten over it.

But the misuse of "your" is so ubiquitous, and for some reason really gets under my skin! I can more easily tolerate "ur" than "your" when what is meant is "you're". At least the person typing "ur" is doing it on purpose. I'm even guilty of using "gonna" and "kinda" but I can't live with "your". I just can't.

YES! Oh and there/their... really gets to me. Makes you wonder sometimes haha

"There/their/they're" bugs me, too. My daughter had a high school ENGLISH teacher misuse these, claiming that the usage rules changed in the '70's.

But "your" still tops my list.

Specializes in school nursing, ortho, trauma.

yes.... but i will admit that i still sometimes struggle with affects/effects

Specializes in ED.

Ok, I would think this one should be obvious, but I've seen it misused... then/than. "No more then 2 visitors allowed". I threw the sign in the trash.
