Does everyone hate doing "peer evaluations"

It was normal to have to do two or three peer evaluations for yearly performance review (along with your "self evaluation"). Our new director has assigned every nurse to fill out a peer review on 10 other staff members. AAAAUGGHHH! I hate filling out one or two let alone 10!! Does anyone like doing these? Does anyone respect or even read these?

i can totally see the value in self evaluations. i think people are usually very honest on those. but i don't think peer evaluations serve any purpose except to make busy work and to cause hard feelings. we had one girl come out crying last year after getting her eval when our management implemented self evaluations.

I have seen the same; we had a good nurse ready to quit after a yearly eval. :o

I have tried to keep my peer reviews very positive with rare exception. I do know of one nurse who was approached after doing a peer review that she needed to come up with a few more "constructive criticisms". Evidently she didn't come down hard enough on her fellow nurse for Manager's liking.

I have voiced that I feel peer reviews are worthless, a way to "get back" at folks you have a personal problem with, and create bad feelings. I was told it is the only way they can get feedback.

Peer evaluations are worthless.

Where I work, you can chose who evaluates you. so of course, people pick their friends who only right done the good things. No one ever writes down what you really need to improve. So its a waste of time.

I need someone to say "Hey Pepper, you need to work on this" so I know where to improve. We all have strengths and we all have weaknesses - but if we aren't told what they are, how can we improve ourselves?

And they can be used against you too - I had one person decide that I was too good in some areas, so she "made up" stuff for me to work on- for example, she said I left my rooms a "mess" or I "hurt a pt while using the lift" - neither of which was true. Lucky for me she gave the evaluation to me instead of back to the manager like she should have. I accidentally dropped it into the shredder instead of my worksheet. Ooops - got someone else to give me a fair evaluation.

ugh...i hate those flippin things! i got mine back a couple days ago, and this one person (who works the opposite shift from me) wrote down the stupidest, most petty, and most of all untrue bullcrap, as in "michael does not know how to match resident's clothing" or "michael stares into space." i cracked up right in my manager's office while i was reading it! by the way, for the most part, i got a great evaluation, the residents and most of my coworkers love me and think i do a great job :-)

Blerg. I am sitting here in front of my computer right now trying to fill out two of these stupid things. I loathe, hate, and despise them. One is relatively easy; the person is a good nurse and pleasant to work with and I have nothing but positive things to say about her. The other, while not a bad nurse and I have no issues with her personally, can be irritating and difficult to get along with and I have been the sounding board more than once for other members of the staff who can't stand her. I'm trying to come up with something tactful to put in the "Opportunities for Growth" box and I'm pulling my hair out here.

Sigh.

They are useless and have the potential to derail the team. I won't do them.
