Trained in the US and planning to move to NSW, just wondered if the accelerated second degree program (16 months, 4 semesters, 63 credits) will meet the requirement of NSW. Didn't see anything specifically mentioned about this. Any idea pls? Thanks!

The only ones that can make the decision is the state nursing board. Have you tried asking them? They probably would want to see your transcripts before making the decision

I finished 2nd degree accelerated nursing program which was 15 months in NYC.
I am an international student also here, finished my OPT as an RN, recently registered in Australian Board of Nursing.
I had NO problem what so ever. I know it's all case by case, but don't worry and go ahead apply.
Don't be discouraged. I read so many negative comments saying "no" to such and such.
But things could work out easier than you think sometimes.
Warmly,
zakuro, I got your PM. I am not allowed to PM yet, I don't know why but I guess there should be 15+ posts to start PM anyone :)
I wonder if you can PM me your email.
Will find a way :)

tnx hardboiledegg =) we have a similar situation i graduated fr. georgia also an international student just finished OPT as an RN now im back to my home country, i recently contacted a nursing agency in australia and thy did tell me to contact the nursing board to make sure they wont be requiring a BSN degree..which im planning to do tomorrow,, which nursing board in australia was it? thank you!!! hoping to hear fro you soo!
They do require BSN.. I do have a BSN, the original question was asking "if the BSN degree has to be 4 years total" With accelereated programs, you can finish BSN less than 4 years.

I've been reading a lot of threads here with regards to applying in australia. I've learned that there are also some second coursers who were able to apply to Australia and have been registered as well. From what others have posted, it is a case to case basis.. I am a second courser as well and I've applied to NMBWA. Still waiting for their assessment letter, though. but I'm keeping my fingers crossed :)
FYI . I just got licensed with nurses board of victoria so yeah they will evaluate ur educational background and american educated nurses with associates degree don't worry! we are qualified just fine..

Yes, it depends case by case, but Canadian, British, American trained nurses usually have no problems as long they are licensed RN's. Go ahead , gather your documents and apply.

Hi! Thanks for that good news.. some ray of hope for US ADN grads! :-) I was just wondering... Is prior clinical work experience required for application with the the Nursing Board of Victoria? How long did the entire process take? Do you think with the upcoming national registration in July, the odds would be the same? Would it be wise to apply with the NBV now? Thanks :-)
Hey alex88!
re: prior clinical work experience requirement, it's best to contact and ask them about it :) Telephone: +61 3 8635 1200 Email: [email protected]
when i applied last year I had over a year of clinical work experience and I didn't know anyone else then who applied, that's how i found this thread. which didn't really help my cause, but that didn't stop me from trying :) mine took about 6 months, it's really case to case basis and it may also depend on the load of their received applications. As for July 2010 the website for the national registration is very vague at this time, so nobody really knows how it's gonna be.. 1 way of looking at it, is if u apply now, u know the requirements for foreign nurses as opposed to july?? while ur in usa if u still have OPT go ahead and try to get a job, it may be hard at this time but experience is really important, specially when moving to another country is ur goal, better to exhaust all ur options while ur there. good luck!
